I friend of mine who is a mechanic called me the other day and said his shop was empty and wanted to know if I wanted him to fix the front gasket that I thought was leaking and tab the KDP. I have been trying to do these two things for several months but due to school and getting married I never done them.

Anyway, I dropped the truck off in the afternoon and then got a phone call from him later that night. He said the dowel pin had already come out. The front cover was cracked and a 1 inch hole busted out the side of it.

After waiting 7 days for the parts it is finally fixed and my wallet very empty :{ :{ :{ .

If you have not tabbed the KDP PLEASE PLEASE do so. It is alot cheaper the fixing the alternative.

Just in case anyone was wondering my truck had 95,000 miles.

Happy New Year

Sounds like you got off lucky, even though it was bad.

If the pin dropped and got propelled out the side of the case, that's a whole bunch better than getting squished thru the gears and having it take out bearings and shafts.

Sorry for your pain, but try to look at the good side.

Regards, DBF

Oh man... . I'm sorry to hear that Monty..... I bet there are others out there that are not convinced/don't know about this being an issue in the 1st Gen trucks.....

Maybe this should be a big bold sticky note in the "help" forums for both of us Monty...

bob... . :confused: :( :{

I discovered a broken timing case on a school bus about a week and a half ago. I have spent just shy of $1,500. 00 on it thus far and it'll take another four days to finish the project. The cost included a new water pump/lift pump/vibration dampener/belt tensioner and shut-down solenoid. Among all the other stuff of course.

It's one heck of a job.

I really want to fix my KDP,but I have no idea how to do it,and it seems there is never a jig up my way,or anyone willing to help me with it. I currently have 234K miles on my rig,and I am worried.

Chris

Don't jig the KDP. There are also loose bolts in the timing cover area. The cam retainer bolts are noted for being loose. If one comes out it will snap the end off the cam. We had a couple of members that happened to about 2 years ago.

When I did my KDP the camshaft retainer bolts were loose enough to remove by finger. :(

Oh dear lordy i knew i shouldn't have read this..... Now im scared to death, do i plan on having it done you bet, when, well with work its sort of hard, hopefully i can get another member close to me to help out... TugBoat you hear this LOL... . I hope to have it done soon, so far no leaking up front, except that darn steering box, but nothing major.
