Just wanted to let everyone know I killed the KDP this past weekend with the tab method. Thanks to Bruce Adams and Richard Ebel for supplying me with the info and tab. It was a great help and could not of done this without!

The KDP was out about 1/8" and the bolt next to it was loose. Veh is a 96 with 114k miles.

I do have one question. I did not have a brass gap gauge for the harmonic balance gap so we used a regular steel gap guage. We measured it before removal for a base, and used that same measurement for after. If this gap is off, what does it effect as everything on the motor is mechanical? Please advise as it looks like a brass guage is in my future.

On a 12 valve your tach may read wrong if the sensor isn't right. The signal also goes to the PCM to tell it that the engine is running.

I found a piece of aluminum to use for a feeler gage that was close. As long as the tach works it will be ok. It just counts pulses so it's hard to get it really wrong. I know you know this, but just in case, make sure you adjust it between the notches otherwise the first time the crank turns over it's by by sensor.

Thanks guys for the responses. Now I need to work on my mpg as I have been getting 16/19, would like to see 18/21 if possible.

thanks for your help

When I did mine I also used a steel feelers guage before I removed it. And then when it went back on, the feelers guage went on the balancer and the sensor went down against the guage... tach work just like it should. .

Also the dowel pin on mine was out about 1/16" at 177,000 miles
