Can I use brake cleaner to clean all of the crud away from the timing cover with out it hurting the gaskets and seals? I am hoping that all of the crud is from the leaky valve gaskets that I replace a month ago and not from the cover gasket. Also where exactly is the KDP, from what I understand it is right above the fan pully?

Thanks,

Doug

Brake cleaner might work or you could use engine cleaner.

The KDP is inside the timing cover. (sort of below and behind the fan pulley) It's a pin that aligns the timing case to the engine block during assembly.

Thanks for the reply. I am just worried that they brake cleaner may eat away at the gasket under the timing cover. I dont want to have to take everything apart. I have the jig to use but I havent had time to dig into it. Hopefully this weekend or next. Does anybody have a picture pointing out exactly where it is?
