Hello all
Little brother recently replaced the gasket on the timing cover of his 98 12v, and did the tab fix for KDP prevention while at it. No KDP damage, just a leaking gasket, but the dowel pin WAS BACKED OUT OF THE HOLE about 1/8 inch, it was on its way to destroy! If you are concerned, stop that thing now!
Followed instructions found here: http://www.flex.net/~triplem/new/dowelpin.htm
Just wanted to add, dont forget about removing the lift pump, the plunger can fall into the oil pan when you remove the camshaft! Fortunately he was able to fish out the plunger through the oil drain hole without removing the pan.
Thanks to all for the info on this site, it has again proven useful!
