I finally got around to tabbing my KDP yesterday. It was out 1/8". Truck has 201K. Everything went pretty smooth. I used the TST kit and instructions and a new Cummins gasket.
I just about freaked out when I was going back together. I was cleaning off the gunk around the bottom part of the gear case where my crank seal had been leaking with a putty knife when it "grabbed" what seemed like a crack from front to back down low on the driver's side of the gear case. I sprayed it with contact cleaner and wiped it with a rag and sure enough there is what looks like a crack all the way across the gear case! I pulled the cover back off and looked at the gasket surface and inside the case and NOTHING! It was just a casting seam! I was very relieved.
I was also able to remove, clean, loctite, and re-torque the inside case bolts. The one removed for the tab AND the one down low were definitely not as tight as they should have been! I'm more comfortable knowing they are right than I am about the dowel pin!
The only other thing is I kept wondering why I had an extra, short bolt!
