Timing gear cover was leaking oil so this weekend i decided to replace it and fix the dp while i was in there. Well when I got he cover off the dowle pin was gone. No sign of it anywhere. As far as i can tell I'm the first to take the cover off. Where could it have gone. This happen to anyone else?

They can fall out and get to the bottom without incident. It's more common than you think because the issues that don't become issues are rarely discovered.

This isnt quite a happy ending yet.

if you didnt replace the KDP, you need to open her back up and put a new one in. (with proper tab) The timing housing provides support to the injection pump, which isnt light. Running without it could crack the housing from the stress.

sorry to poo on the parade, but hey, the world sucks. if it didnt, we`d all fall off :D

on my truck when i got it, the KDP fell out and took a big chunk of the gear case our completely. when we got in there we couldnt find it anywhere. as we tore into getting the case out we pulled the injector pump gear and low and behold there the KDP was, behind the injector pump gear. no clue how it got there but man did i get lucky. not saying that it is there on yours but that is crazy. u just never no where it could go. mine droped two. the person who put another one in didnt tab and and she dropped again. my truck must have 9lives or something, wired. just my two cents.

I had two of them wipe me out before I joined her many moons ago. The first one wiped out the case and fell out to the ground with the case parts that broke off. The second one wiped out the case again, the cam gear and the pump gear and all but made me rebuild the entire motor. That KDP dissappeared and we never found it until about a year ago when we put the chrome oil pan on my motor and dropped the old pan. It had been dropped intot he pan at the second explosion at 55k and 130k later I found it in the pan still... ... Andy
