Hi what years do the KDP's attack most? I have a 95 12 valve, built in 94, I am going to fix it but I was just curious about how urgent it is cause its cold here and I wanna wait till spring and it has 118,000 on it.

Thanks, Travis

95s are vulnerable to the KDP. I don't know what years are _MOST_ vulnerable, but IMO it is urgent and should be addressed asap. It's just one of those things you can't count on waiting for. It could happen at 118,001 or it might never happen, but addressing it now can save you a good deal of $$$.

I read somewhere that even earlier 24 valves had the KDP, I think in 2000 is when they finally fixed it. So anyway 94-99 have the KDP problem, there's no specific year that has the problem more than others.

I had the timing advanced on my 96 last week. In the process of doing so, the lockwasher that goes between the nut and timing gear broke in half and fell down in the timing cover. At that point the tech and I looked at each other with a seriously irritated look on our faces, knowing that now the timing cover had to come off. Upon removal, the KDP was 3/4 out, and I don't think would have stayed much longer. So it was corrected at the same time. Turned out to be a good problem with the broken lock washer :-laf :-laf

I had an early 2001 with the KDP. It came out and trashed gears and case and seals. Thankfully did not damage block. All in All it cost $1,795,00 plus tax to fix a . 02 cent pin. IMO, I think every model from about 2002 down should Get it fixed NOW. Did fix myself and saved about $1500. 00 in labor. I have since upgraded to a 12 valver..... best choice i made, no more computer to mess with. Oo.

that's cool

for the new guys:

KILLER DOWEL PIN- the pin is in the front gear cover aligning the cover to the block the bore in the cover is one size the pin can work its way out and fall into the gear train causing major damage and extensive labor to fix.

KDP terrorism is far worse than most know. however, working with

THE DEPARTMENT OF CUMMINS FRONT GEAR TRAIN SECURITY I have first hand experance. its all to commen that inocent people are victomized by this ruthless, unforgiving, spontanous, extremily destructive orginization of undetectable, unseen idividuals. they are infact worce than land mines. land mines dont set them selves off. don't take the chance if your not shure check it your self. prevention is cheeper!!!!!
