I couldn't stand the suspense,60$ in parts and 20$ for a wrench just under 4 hours. found pin out 3/16ths,pushed back with little effort. I took the bolt out next to it and noticed this bolt was only engaged by 5 threads to begin with, add the thickness of a washer to this? It was to late to by a bolt so I took a small center punch and dimpled the hole in 4 spots around the hole. If anyone else uses this method be gentel,if you move the metal enough to cause a crack you've shot your self in the foot. anyone with thoughts on this method sound off!

Jim, it might just work, most folks are replacing the bolt with a longer one. Cummins recommended fix is to apply wicking type Loctite (green) to the KDP. If you've got it closed up again it's too late hope it works for you, it should.

Jim: Would you give us a list of part numbers and the wrench size (fan bolt?)? The more I read about the KDP the more I think about an inspection!

Landshark-I bought a gasket for the gear cover(4638719 gasket-timing cover,$26. 60)and the seal for crank(5012290aa seal-front main $33. 95) both from Dodge. I got a 36MM wrench from NAPA,couldn't find reciept but it was $18something I think. I read all the posts about how others did this and borrwed what worked for me. Whoever suggested using a small punch on right edge of fan nut and hitting it to break it loose-thanks,I was getting nowhere fast trying to hold the pulley still. Probably could have done without wrench alltogether. I siphoned out 1 2liter bottle of coolant and moved radiator hose out of my way-took front off and tied it to intake. The only o-**** was putting damper back on,fine time to think about marking how it came off huh! It was 50-50 on hitting it right,it either dosen't matter or I hit it right the first time as it runs fine. Good luck-not to bad of a job overall and mine was out a bit-ahh peace of mind-what little I have left.

kdp out 3/16-dimpled hole

Now that the 36MM wrench has been brought up, I have one of THOSE questions. Some have refered to the wrench as a FAN NUT wrench. While others are just using a standard wrench of the same size. What, if any, is the difference? Length? #ad

Thanks

TMA149 any wrench that fits will work, someone mentioned buying a "fan wrench" but anything that fits is good. I tried even my crecent wrenchs but they were to thick to fit between nuts holding pulley on and studs on fan. you might try the punch and hamer first, after using that i was able to spin the fan off by hand but I did use wrench to tighten it.

I quit even trying to remove the fan with out first using the punch and hammer. After a couple of good raps you probably can remove the fan with a pair of pliers.
