I was wondering, those that have done the repair on the pin, how would you pass information on, that you have done this procedure, if you decide to up grade to another truck, or just sell it? my son is thinking about buying a CTD 95-98 12 valve and of course, this is a concern. most of the time the dealer won't give previous owner info. the jig method would be visible, the tab won't. any suggestions? short of a tare down.

I would just plan on doing a jig or tab fix after buying the truck unless you can talk to the previous owner. Unless the ex-owner belongs to TDR it's highly unlikely anything has been done. If you are selling the truck very few people would know or care about the KDP.

illflem's right... . only those on the TDR know how to deal with the KDP, with VERY few exceptions.

The jig-fix is NOT visible unless you remove the fan hub... . and the tab-fix is an even more invasive manuever.

Just like the justice system... . everything/everyone is guilty until proven innocent. Plan on doing either fix with anything 6BT powered you buy... . even if it is a genset..... the damage it could cause is reason enough to investigate.

MLee, I thought about that too when I did the tab on mine. I think the best solution would be a little metal tag, similar to those that are found on carburetors, that had "KDP Tabbed" stamped on it. The tag could be attached to one of the screws that hold the timing gear cover on and it could even be folded over the edge of the timing gear housing so as to be readily visible from the top of the engine.

Another option might be to write the information on the inside cover of the Owner's Manual - most dealers would leave that with the vehicle when they resell it.

thanks Dave, thats what i was looking for. i don't like being like a Dr. and that exploratory surgery to find that it has already been done. the tag, or some indication that it was done would be good for the next person.

thanks all
