Competition How did Richard run ?

We thought there was a little issue with a ring, but conditions told us we might need to look a bit further...

#ad

Uh, yeah. . there was an issue. Best we can tell, the piston was broken as far back as July when we made licensing passes at Bristol (and when we ran an 8. 90). We just kept breaking more pieces off... until 1/2 was gone. Cylinder looks better than the rest... go figure.

Considering these are not an off the shelf part, we are down for a bit. Our apologies to everyone in Atlanta... . we are going to have to bow out this weekend.

Everything else looks good from the teardown... not bad considering this motor has not been touched since last season... . and then it was only torn apart to take a look... nothing had been changed or replaced. Even rings :)

:{ Dang it you guys out now too?? Don't feel bad for ya though :p as I've been down ALL season!! Gunnin to start fresh next season though!!Oo.

Lotsa breakage thru-out this past season huh? Fletch- Hoss- Keating- Scott - I've seen a few exhaust valve seats drop out and wreck havoc inside the cylinder... .

:D Who made that piston? You stated it was not off the shelf?

That Sucks! I really hate that for you guys and was looking forwrd to seeing yall run this weekend... I hope you get it back together soon !

Keating may be making the trip down Sat to see whats up with everyone. I may be locked into "Honey-Do's". :-{}

The problem is not so much where it comes from, but what happens to it afterward :D

It does matter where it comes from. You can't run without it. And looking at the break, if the piston was a Cummins brand, it would have steel at the ring groove and will not break. Is saving weight that important?

. . Preston. .

Why Preston-I've seen plenty of stockers do that same thing as shown- :rolleyes:

Matter of fact THAT looks like a stocker to me- correct me if I'm wrong

I'm speaking of the marine piston. Stock, you are probably right. I didn't realize the stock one were still in use. :) Correct me when I'm off a little. :-{}

. . Preston. .

:-laf I hear ya Preston, but that 1st pic looked like a stock cast piston... . not a liteweight aftermarket piston- Like an Arias Forged... ..... And I have not even seen a aftermarket rod for these motors that's lighter in weight or stronger... ... . Unless I'm not looking in the right places- there's none:{ ? I know Mahle Pistons have 12V and 24V- @17. 0 C. R. Cheap- under $90 bucks per piston.....

:D LPreston- That's NOT a RV275 Cummins piston? Right?
And looking @ your pic again I have another question- What weight oil you run in that engine and You spray alot of water don't ya?(o. k so that's 2 more questions... :-laf )

Someone told me these RV275's are good ones to get... ..... like to see a pic of them though... .

Thats the only photo I've got. Honestly, it could be a stock Cummins piston but I can't tell ya for sure. Remember, this was the motor out of his Dually.

There are a lot of things going on in this shop and typically cameras don't make it thru the front door per the Department of Haulin' Security. :eek:

Look me up at an event and I will tell you a story that will make you understand why. I don't want to bash any company in public forums, even if they conduct themselves dishonestly.
