Hey First Generation Brothers & Cummins lovers Everywhere!

My truck rolled 200,000 miles on Friday while driving south to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi! I know that this isn't a huge feat for the Cummins & most of us expect many more miles than this from our beloved Cummins... But I had to tell somebody! :)

The Ironic part is that I noticed by the Exit #'s & mile markers that it looked like she was going to roll 200,000 as I came up on MM 200. Sure enough... While travling on I-65 S just N. of Montgomery, Al. the OD rolled w/i a few feet of mile marker 200! I was traveling solo, so I just flicked the dome light a few times... held my hands in the air while steering w/ knee, let out a solo wahooooo & toasted the Cummins w/ the Mountain Dew I had been swigging on.

Smiles for all!:)

Well done! According to the current odometer reading of 96,298 km my 92 should hit 200,000 km sometime in the year 2012 :D !!

me too on my 2nd gen truck!! hit 200,000 a week ago on the '94. runs BETTER than the day it was born. the transmission's only been opened for filter changing and band adjusting. nothing other than routine maintance to the motor. the rest of the truck,,the usual dodge stuff,,trak-bars,,brake pull ,,fuel tank sender. plus it was cheap to BOMB compared to my,,uuummmmmm 24valve.

Congratulations

I once was present for a real cool shutdown of a Ford salesman. We were towing snowmobiles at around 3,000 ft. We stopped at this gas station and fueled up. This Ford salesman pulls up with a new powerstroke. He starts asking about what kind of mileage we got and how it pulled and such. He was really decent about the stuff until he learned that we had gotten about 16 mpg pulling hills with two sleds on back. He started spouting off about how the Ford could get way better mileage. Then my buddy Johnny leaned in and asked if it would get that kind of mileage at 365,000 miles. The guy just shut up and walked off! The truck is still rolling along and has over 380,000 miles on the odometer. It was used to pull a 28' enclosed trailer daily for the first 200,000 miles of its life, easy duty right.

cool!

I got my 91. 5 from a buddy a couple weeks ago with 198,500 on the clock... he got it at 95k and hauled a 5th wheel back and forth from northern California to Dallas for a few years...

I've put almost 3k miles on it in the last two weeks! :)

it'll probably see pretty light duty with me... it may haul a car here and there, but mostly it'll haul 1-2k lbs of car parts 4k miles every couple months... I just wanted something that'd suit my needs, still have room to sleep in it (it's got a camper shell), have capability to tow a car on a hauler, and haul down decent gas mileage... it doesn't show signs of letting me down. I want to get the bands adjusted on the transmission soon.

congrats! I remember when mine turned 200k last week! :)

KEENO,

Out of the 200,000, how many miles of it did you have my clutch ?

Quit often people ask me how long my clutch can last with good driving habits.

Good driving habits... ... ... then they tell me that they have 450hp and tow 20,000 pounds frequently. :D

Really, any info is helpfull!!

Peter

what's wrong with towing 20,000lbs with 450hp? why are those bad driving habits?

accelerating 20,000lbs at a given rate only requires so much clutch no matter what the engine is capable of...

now, if they're trying to accelerate 20k at WOT, then yes, that's not what you would consider good driving habits...

do you make a multi disk setup for the Cummins by any chance?

thanks,

Forrest

Damn my wife would be happy if I kept my truck that long. I have 38K on mine now and drive around 18K per year. So I would be at 200K, 9 years from now. That would make me 61 and I would have a year to pickout my new truck before I went on social security :)

I was just joking, there isn't anything wrong with doing that. I was, more or less, complimenting how awesome and cool these trucks are. :)

As for the double disk, I am doing some work with one but it is not ready yet. This style of clutch that I am building will not really be for street purposes but it will be for sled pulling.

Peter

Thanks for all of the congratulations!:)

I don't know if I have 'Good Driving' habits or not... But I don't abuse my truck. I drive 35,000 miles in the First Gen annually, mostly empty w/ Kayaks on the roof going to the ocean or whitewater rivers in the SE. The truck makes great power but I'm not certain it's much over 250HP/600ish ft/lb. of torque (never has been on a dyno).

Peter back in February (30,000 miles ago) I installed your SBC clutch consisting of the Luk Pressure plate / Valeo disk / Kevlar pilot bushing & special throw-out bearing. Question: Which kit is this in SBC terminology? I would like to tell people when they ask!

I've been happy with this kit... It performs well and I like it's driveability over the OEM Sachs. The price was equally to my liking @ $450. 00 delivered.

If you have a moment sometime... maybe you could mention some of your opinions regarding why SBC feels that the OEM Sachs is almost too much clutch for our application. I was skeptical at first but do enjoy driving this set up.

Thanks all!

Peter,

sorry for the misinterpretation... I agree, these engines are amazing.

that twin/multi-disk oughta be sick... the one that just came out for the SBF will hold 900hp with practically stock pedal feel (for comparison, about the most you could hold with stock pedal feel before the twin disk setup was ~400ish)

I find that after a little sarcasm, this smiley helps to keep thick headed guys like me at bay... :p

take care,

Forrest

Congrats. That is a big accomplishment. Most people get tired of what they are driving long before they see that on an odometer. I'm only 73,000 miles behind!

Getting Closer

Keeno,

Let me know when you get closer to 250K. I will get old yellar out of retirement and try to stay ahead of you. Old yellar is the '74 Plymouth listed on my signature if it prints this time. Again, congratulations.
