Cochran - Sent you "thoughts" on a dealer selection.
Observations: When I picked up my new Dodge, the gal that
handles financing and the gee-gaws they try to sell you was
pushing LOJAK. Didn't buy.
A few weeks afterwards was eating at a fast food joint, four of the
local cops were there also (Orange County, CA). Asked them what
they thought of Lojak. Mixed bag - but one guy says their helicopter
is equipped with a receiver. [Sounded good].
When they left, one guy came over to see my truck. Turns out he
had a new Dodge CTD also. He told me that he often has one of the
cars with a Lojak receiver - but has no clue how it works!
He lives in Riverside, CA - and purchased his Truck from Fhrom (sp?)
Dodge in Norco. It was one of the dealerships in that area that had
a number of trucks and SUV's torched by an ecology freak. So all of
Fhrom's Trucks have an upgraded alarm system - buyer can pay an
extra $200. or pass on it (they remove it, I guess).
Asked the gal at my insurance co her thoughts on Lojak - says their
claim of 99% (or whatever) recovery rate . . . . doesn't say what
condition the "recovered" truck is in!
When I get a chance I will check with the cops at my former employer
(City cops - not County Sheriff) and see what they have to say about
alarms, Lojak, etc. [Better opportunity to get the "straight scoop"]
Besides chop shops - in border states, lots of trucks go "South of the
border" for a chop or resale. [Maybe re-cycled in Sautillo?]
