Any suggestions on keeping My Black Truck clean. Its hard to keep the water from spotting. If this posted in the wrong place in sorry. Also just wanted to say I love these forums and am amazed at the info on these boards.
Buy a YEAR membership at the local "Mermaid" full service wash outlet... at roughly $450-$500 for unlimited washes for 1 year..... otherwise an average of 1 wash per week at roughly $20 ea costs over $1000!!! at face value..... my last truck was black and this was the ticket for having a clean truck almost daily... . lets just say they didnt make any money on my membership... LOL-BJ
I was suprised too. I was very skeptical after seeing the Mr. Clean ad on TV. Consumer Reports had a favorable review so I gave it a try. It does work as advertized and is a spot free wash. It works on the same DI water principle in Mr. 4xquadrod's post.
well when i bought my dakota it was black. could never get it to look decent. the swirls annoyed me so much i couldnt stand looking at it. as of now. the new paint should be done my midweek. painted it GoManGo. thats how i solved my black paint problems. but it was pricey
I've had a lot of black vehicles. As someone already said, never wash it in the sun, and when you are done dry the truck off with old towels that are worn out for home use, but nice and soft for the truck.
My truck is also black with a black shell. get yourself an 8' ladder, a hose wand, and big plastic bottle of a dish soap. Wet the entire truck first, other wise you’ll scratch da paint joba. Then lay a soap bead all along the top edges of a the truck/shell an a get to work. he he..... seriously black vehicles just take a lot of time and care to look cool But that's how I do nearly weekly “IF” I want it to look decent. :{ Maybe that’s why most vehicles colors are silver, gray, or some dusty looking color. BTW REAL lambskin is the ticket to removing water spots. Wet the skin with water, then wring it out. Then spread it out over a large area of the truck and just pull it along by the two outer corners, until it is saturated. Wring it out and continuo. It “is” a lot of work, to do a large truck and shell, but it sure looks nice when done!
Don't keep it clean. Mine is black. I am on a job site almost everyday, and drive home on a dirt road... what the hell am I supposed to do???? Who cares, if my baby has a little dust and some bugs. I know under it all she's a beauty. I take her down to the local wash about every 2 to 3 weeks. Does the job for me.
Black the prettiest truck on the showroom floor and the worst ther following week after purchase. Had ONE once. Never again. Not to be REAL negitive but also the fastest failure rate of radios, steering wheel controls and interior pieces.
I'm guilty of truck abuse. Only been washed once and that was after a spring trip to Ewetah. There was sooooo much salt on the road I had to do something. I will wash it again some day... . promise
The problem I always had was regular carnuba waxes getting on trim and crevices where it left whitish-gray streaks and marks. So I did something I never thought I'd do and got Turtle Wax- the colored black formula. It did a great job! Filled in all the minor imperfections and got rid of almost all my swirl marks!!! And no more annoying wax deposits around the doors and grille you had to go back over with a little brush. I use it on all black vehicles I detail now, and it really does make a difference. The clay bar is a good idea, too, just use it first.
