A month or so ago I was considering a new truck. Lots of you guys posted back to my question as to whether I should keep the old one or get a new one. Well, after much consideration, I have decided to keep the old one. Thank you guys for the comments. Took it to a body shop this morning, got a quote and decided to have it painted. Will take it in Saturday morning and they will have it for about 2 -3 weeks. Said when I get it back it will be better than new. Will be hand rubbed, all new side trim, all glass will be removed before painting and all dings fixed. Dupont paint with a clear coat applied.

Timing worked out well, will be gone on several road trips next 3 weeks and will only be home for a day or so. Sure am lookin forward to getting it back and having it look pretty!!Oo. Might even enter it in a "show and shine" at one of the meets!

Good for you!

I hope that I can keep mine long enough to do that... . and install a P-Pumped engine... yeah and a 6-speed, you know the simple 2 hour bolt-on's :p

Russell

Hey Russ, your talking about all the cheap stuff, right?;)

My truck is now at the body shop, they will start on it Monday. :) It will get 2 coats of color and then 3 coats of the clear coating. They will wet sand and them buff out afterwards. Sure hope it turns out good!

Sounds good Paccool!! What color, colors you going with? I loved the two-tones of the 1st. Gens. I wish you could still get them.

Oo. Congradulations paccool, Glad to hear you're keeping the truck and getting it painted. Hope it turns out pretty.

Hopefully, I can start on mine soon. Got Hail damage last weekend. :{ :{ :{

So I guess I will be painting and fixing mine again.

Well let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for Stayin'

Stan,

That Green is the sweetest color IMHO. Door jams, inside the bed etc. too?? Lastly where from and dare I ask how much for all the outside trim?

Art

PS Have you had cowl crack symptoms? This would be the time to take care of them. Not that I'm nosey or telling you what to do or that I have an opinion, nothing like that.

Dieselgirl, sorry to hear about the hail damage!:( How bad was it? I have a few dings in the top of the hood that are from hail or large pine cones, can't decide which. Am getting those fixed. How long ago did you fix it up-you said you had to do it "again".

Art, The top and hood of the truck was getting pretty bad but the rest of it is in OK shape. Have some dings there are going to take out. Owner said they would not take out factory ripples but would fix any dings or dents. Not painting the jambs. There is a bed liner installed, not going to paint inside the bed. They are removing all the glass, getting new window channel installed in the side windows as well as new rubber around the stationary glass. OEM trim was over $700, this doesn't include any chrome parts. Decided to go with aftermarket stuff. The shop owner said it is real close to original and is half the cost. I asked about using the old, he said it is sometimes hard to get to stay on and couldn't guarantee it will stay on. With the new trim he is guaranteeing the work for as long as I own the truck. He also is guaranteeing the paint job for as long as I own the truck. (yes, it is in writing)

I looked around and this shop does real good work. The painter is top notch and the shop is proud of their work. Could have saved about $700 but decided to go with these guys. The wet sanding and buffing was a plus to me as is the warranty.

Price? Well, lets just say closer to 4K than to 3K. Had to think about it some! Is not a cheap miracle paint job. Since I decided to keep the truck, want to do it right.

Stan

Stan The hail was from golf ball to baseball size hail:mad:

I gave my truck a paint job over a year ago or so. When I bought it the paint was really faded, And I couldn't handle that. So Since I'm my own shop. I will be doing the work again. :D

Glad to hear Stan you got the warranty in writing thats the way to go. Oo. Green Very perrrty Color!!!

Amy

Stan, I had to go for a grille on my '92 a while back. I insisted on a Mopar part. They got replacment grilles from 2 vendors, and the chrome and flash were horrible. Looked like something from a model kit! Look at it first before it goes on. I hope to redo my truck in the next year, How was the paint (peeling?) and was there any rust? I just realized that I have some floor rot out right where my right heel rests!

Wayne, I'm not replacing any chrome, only the black side molding that runs from front to back. The shop owner knows I want it to look stock and also look good. The paint wasn't peeling, was just going away on the top and hood. Was just starting to get a little rust in the center of the roof.

Thanks Gary! Wasn't sure if you still visited us first gen folks!

Amy, sounds like some good old fashion Texas hail! I've seen what that stuff can do. My dings were minor to what I know your must look like. :(

Stan

Stan. . why not. . I still think think that the first gens are the best looking ones. . took a long while before I was ok with the second gens... .

heck who knows some day I might do a 1st gen project rig. . probably not since I retired. . got to watch those $$ a little closer now. . LOL [better said the Sargent has me a little closer in check now:rolleyes: ]

sitting here watching the snow [yup snow on 4/15 at 4000 ft. geeees should be full blown spring] that is coming down now drinking my coffee thinking about which project to get on today... naw to cold out there. . I'll just drink some more coffee HeHe

Paccool, what have you done?

Now I am running all around my shop trying to figure out a battle plan with my w-350 SWB truck. As bad as this sounds, I would rather keep my beat up old dump truck and turn it into a pick-up, then keep my pretty nice w-350 club cab  Now I am going to have to find a bed and just do it... how crazy, the thing doesn't even have air :D

Russ,

I don't EVEN want to add up how much I have in my truck!

Bought it for 12K, new rear end-$800, new seats-$850, Rebuilt pump-that wound up at 2K before it was done, new injectors, new 16 housing, new stereo, Brakes and wheel bearings all the way around, speedy sleeves in the rear, chrome valve covers and heater hose, now the paint and body work. I don't want to add it all up cause the wife says I put to much into it. She was the one that suggested a new truck! I'd sure hate to tell her the total! Oh well, got to have something to enjoy, right? RIGHT?????:D

Stan

Ha ha, I hear you...

I have another quick question, what hapened to your rear (no pun intended :D)? I am going to need one in my truck, and was kind of wondering if yours died the way mine will. The bolts that hold the ring gear on mine decided that their job was done and backed out :-{} Yeah, real great to find this out when the dumb rear ABS light is on... . the bolts pushed the exciter ring off it's track. Anyhow, just checking to see if I am the only one with this problem.

Thanks,

Russell

The rear end in mine had been changed to 4:10 ratio by the previous owner. Was not the best set up for me, when out of OD, truck pretty much was out of RPM at 55MPH. Was a little to tight for me! The gears wore out or went away from not being set up right. Was real noisy toward the end and was getting worse. Had it rebuilt with 3:54 set of gears and all new bearings. The limited slip was also trash and had to be rebuilt. The new setup is really sweet. pulls my 6000# trailer like it isn't there.
