Happy Mothers' Day to all!

Ok so I will start the "official Kentucky Derby thread".

I dont know much about horses and horse racing, but I am constantly intrigued by horse racing itself. I think its just racing that I love so much that I will watch it in any form.

Who are some of your guys' favorites?

Personally I want to see Bellamy Road win cause Boss George owns him.

We have a winner! Oo.

Giacamo (spelling?)

the second largest payback, other one was 1913. Great race, hope every one got to see it. MSNBC has the video if you missed it.

Someone won some serious money today 50:1 odds, thats nuts. Ok, so who all won and is holding out on the rest of us TDR'ers?

A friend of mine won $500 on him. I don't know much about horses other than the fact that my dog likes to eat them, BUT... . Supposedly this horse was the only on of it's kind in the race, meaning in color I think. Because this was her favorite type of horse, she put $5 on it to win, 5 to place, and 5 to show and went home with a little under $500. . Not bad... The trifectas and superfectas payed BIG money... I saw one where I think a 2$ bet paid 1. 2 MIL..... Nice.

Next year I am going to bet the longshots. No more analyzing past performances. They mean nothing.

Looking at the track times, they were FLYING saturday. It seems Spanish Chestnut wore them all out early. He did his job.

At the 1/4 mile they were 3 seconds faster than Secretariat (Current Track Record)

At the 1/2, 4 seconds faster

At the 3/4, 3 seconds faster

Edit: I'm not sure if Secretariat holds the record time for the Derby 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4.

Yep, me too. You would have come out real good w/ just a $2 bet on all the long shots... . You can bet there were plenty of people who made some serious money yesterday by total accident.
