I'm needing to get the flywheel and clutch in today! Sunday. So. Bend Clutch is closed of coarse.

I had the flywheel machined to accept the Kevlar pilot bushing and it is a real tight fit. Is the bushing pressed in or is it an interferance fit. They have sent JB Weld to secure the bushing, but as tight of fit as it is, there is no way any JB will be left after pressing into fly wheel. The little woman has the oven going strong for Sunday dinner. Should I heat the flywheel and freeze the pilot for an interferance fit?? What temp. does kevlar melt??

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, Stab

I did mine about 5 weeks ago. The bushing that came already installed was the wrong one but the one shipped with the clutch was correct. I drove out the wrong one and installed the correct one. It was a tight fit but I was able to drive it in. I used the JB Weld and just made sure it was around the outer edge of the bushing inside the flywheel. You won't need much - to date mine has been working just fine. I hope this helps.

Happy trails

What was wrong with the bushing they sent first. The one I have seems loose in the inside diameter for the main saft clearance. The brass bushing sent with the kit and also the needle bearing sent with the clutch seem much tighter.

The installed kevlar bushing was for a Ford flywheel and was much too small:eek: My Kevlar bushing tighented up enough after installation.

Stab,

The measurments are correct, the flywheel should be bored to 1. 380 inch, the bushing is at 1. 388 inch. It is designed to be a tight fit. The compression will bring the inside hole diameter to 3/4 inch which is the size of the input shaft. Please do not heat up the flywheel and freeze the kevlar bushing. These steps are not required. The JB Weld will squish out as you are pressing the bushing in but a thin film will remain to lock it in. I hope you get this message before you go through the process you were speaking of.

Hey Stab!:)

I received your email this morning... Sorry I wasn't much help over the weekend (No home computer, yet :()

I had mine machined to the 1. 380 dimension that Peter mentioned & had the Speed Shop press the bushing into place. I was told to use Loctite instead of JB weld. I hope this is still an acceptable procedure!

I had my kevlar bearing installed by a machine shop, gave them a new ring gear, the kevlar bushing and the instructions from South Bend, and it works great ! (I also had the flywheel balanced too) Been real happy with my South Bend Sachs Clutch/Kevlar Bearing.
