Ok I have an issue with 1 of my keys for the truck, works fine the second one, right after the truck starts it will run for about 10 seconds and then die, also it wont lock or unlock the doors, changed batteries still no luck. I hate the idea of having got to the dealer and wait hrs on end for them to tell me the key dont' work. Anybody have any experiance or ideas on a fix. Thankfully Im not in the middle of some trip with a stupid truck that wont run because of a dead key.

Thanks

06 with Sentry key.

Open the key up,you may find the batt contact on one side has come loose from the printed circuit board... quite common if dropped. You may be able to resolder it. Otherwise if it worked when new it looks like replacement time and it must be programed before it will work. That takes a starscan.

Sounds like you'll have to go to the dealer. You can't program another key unless you have 2 good keys to start with. Should be covered by warranty and not a big deal for the dealer to make you a working key.

Look in your owners manual, new keys need to be programmed for your vehicle, dealer must have forgot to do it. I think it gives instructions on how to but am not certain.

That's the security system at work. You'll see a small red light flashing or continually lighted in the instrument panel when that occurs. Right after I bought my truck I had a "bright idea" to use a thin easily carried aftermarket extra key instead of the factory key with a big fat head. I experienced the same symptom. Next I tried double-sticking the factory key to the steering column next to the switch and using my extra key. The system was too smart, it still wouldn't run. Your second key is either defective or was not programmed as another post stated above.

the new keys do have a problem with the soders breaking inside were the battery is but even without the battery the skim module will still read from the key. and the truck will run, sounds like you need your key programed.
