Hello Guys,

Who have already tried to programm A ebay spare key on a model 2006?

I did just bought an 2006 mc laramie with only one key.

Who knows the programming steps the dealer does with only one key,I do have a Launch scanner with full coverage for daimler/chrysler

Thanks.

I lost mine and went to the dealer and bought new one, they charged one hour labor to program($85. 00), with the key it came to about $239. 00. I then bought one off ebay and progammed it myself but I had to pay $20. 00 to get it cut. Walmart would not cut it because it was a chipped key. bg

If you have only one key, you'll need to go to the dealer for the programming... but once you have two, you can do them yourself, and should have at LEAST a pair of spares.

Also, if you're in the habit of breaking off the key portion of the combo key/fob but the fob/chip still works... You can get a blank key/case unit from dealextreme. It costs $6. 04 and any locksmith can cut the key since you're actually removing the fob/chip portion and putting it in the new case.

I go through the keys every 6 months or so... Oh how I wish our keys folded up neatly into the fob like some brands, but noooo we get a monstrosity.

In any case, good luck.

Does any one sell a key with chip only? I would like to have something smaller to keep in my pocket. I can unlock the door with the key.

Just checked my 2006 Service Manual and you do need two programmed keys to use the Customer Learn Method for additional keys. Bummer... ... .

The dealer method requires the 4 digit security code for them to do it. If the little baggie that the keys came in is still in the glovebox you might find the code on the barcode sticker. The dealer can get the code from Chrysler of course but you cant.

I did search for the code but it is not in the car.

The former owner is someone from California(sold new by Crown dodge), The car is imported to The Netherlands via Germany.

I hope my local dodge dealer can get the code from Chrysler, because the dodge ram pickups are not for sale through the dealerships, the only ones running in Europe are privatly imported ones.

I've heard the military's solution to losing keys in their pool vehicles is to stash a functional key with a transponder under the dash and then just issue cheap replacement keys. It doesn't help with someone hotwiring the truck but I doubt anyone would find it.

I've heard the transponder itself does not need to have a battery. Is that true? I'm not talking about the remote locks on the key fob. The Ebay keys don't look like you can replace the battery on them.
