I am having ignition switch problems. I can turn the key to the start position and nothing is there, no resistance, no spring back, no starter. It seems as if a rod has come disconnected. How hard would this be to fix, worst case scenario. How far do I need to tear the steering column apart to get to the switch or mechanism?

Hi Edward... I am not alot of help on the electrical end of things... which I regret for more reason than one... :D ... . however, there are a few guys here who can really make it happen when one of ours needs help ... ... jump in here guys... :D

key switch

It isn't hard to do. The mechanism is all under the plastic cover below the steering wheel. Screws hold the top and bottom section of the cover together. The screws are installed from the bottom. Two I think. With the cover off, it is right there and easily changed. It has been a couple of years so it is fuzzy in my mind but I think that the new switch came from NAPA.

Good luck

James

my 93 did the same thing and it turned out to be the lock assy was breaking off at the switch housing. Both parts available at local parts store, but to use your original key had to order lock unit from dealer for about 50+

I have taken the covers off the column, and I see the 3 screws holding the switch in, but what size torx fits. I see the screws are tamper proof torx, and I have bought a T15, T 25, neither fit. Is it T 20? I hope since it's my last resort.
