Bought a Viper 210HV keyless entry system yesterday. All I want is to push the button once and open the drivers door, push it again and get the passenger door. Directions aren't very good w/ the kit because it's supposed to be dealer installed, but I wasn't going to pay $180 for a $50 entry system.

So, my question for those who have done a keyless install:

What "door lock wiring type" do I have on my '01 Dodge? I found this on the12volt.com: http://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/doorlocks.asp

and I also found this: http://www.the12volt.com/request/99ram.asp

I also found another site that listed the same (or nearly) wire colors for an '01 Ram, so I'm sure the '99 specs are the same. Going off that second page it says "Door Unlock 5 wire (+)". I'm taking this to mean that our Rams run a 5-wire system so I need to wire my relays like this:

#ad

correct?

Just trying to make it easy on myself. Don't want the horn honking, the lights flashing, etc... just unlock the friggin' doors w/o a key!

Thanks, Josh

Ok, to let anybody in the future know, what I have posted above is correct for an '01 Ram. It uses the 5 wire system with a positive pulse to lock/unlock. Wire colors shown in the chart are also correct.

Install took me two hours, start to finish, making up my own instructions as I went. System works just like I want (no frills) and I've tested to 100' so far. Receiver is mounted behind the glove-box w/ antenna strung horizontally behind there too (it's about 12" long).

Now, I should find something cool to hook up the auxillary button to... hmm... any ideas?

Congrats. I've installed three alarms now, and I know they can be a lot of work. When I get to do mine, I want to put an unlock servo on my tool box.

I think you could, but the controller only puts out a pulse signal for a relay, so I couldn't get them to come all the way down I don't think... . I need to look into it. I have my windows "hot-wired" as is so they work at all times w/o the key on, so maybe I can finger something out.

they have special modules for windows. but it can be done. it can be set to roll them up when you lock the doors. usually more hassle than they are worth. mark

Hey Snowracer,

or anyone out there... .

How do you mod the windows so that they will operate with the key off?

Thanks, Charlie

snowracer ,,, if you want the windows to roll down with the alarm system you will need to buy a window module from the same company as the alarm "viper" which is made by d. e. i inc. part "# 530t" ... it will roll the windows up and down and vent them 1 inch ,,,and will make the windows auto down with one push of the window button and it will go up the same way ,,, or you could really get wild and buy a "wet not system" and have the windows roll up by them selfs if it rains that if you have the windows vented for air flow... . being an alarm installer if the windows are hot all the time someone can force a rod in the truck thew the seal and roll down and seal the truck just my 2 cent on that ... but look up D. E. I on the net it will show you lots of things to do with that keyless entry
