I lost one of my set of keys on my last road trip. Dodge wants $28 for another remote plus I don't know for the programming. My question is can I program this myself or am I sucked into the *ealers trap again.

I don't have a clue, but I'm shocked that it's only $28. (I would've guessed about 3 times that :D )

(I was VERY careful as I disabled the panic button to not ruin something else in there  )

Same thing happened to me and the dealer had to do the programming. I had the "smart key" to deal with, too. Damn thing wasn't smart enough not to get lost, though:( .

Edit:

I think the problem that I had was that I had to have the key reprogrammed by the dealer and he did the fob at the same time.

I coulda' swore I read in the owner's manual how to program a new key or keyfob. It's cold, late and I'm in my looms or I'd run out to the truck and see. But it definately didn't sound like it needed the dealer to do it.

Steve: You are correct! "He a circus mouse- Mr Jingles":-laf :-laf but seriously it is in the manual on how to reprogram keyfob, I've done it. Also 28 bucks is super cheap, Chevy wants about a 100 bucks for theirs. :D

My dealer says they are $85. 00. :--) Instructions in the owners manual tells how to program or reprogram them. Do they have to be programed after a battery replacement? Would think so.

I got two of them off ebay, gave 5. 50 for one, and 9. 50 for the other, both were like new, and both work. There was 6. 00 ea. shipping, so have to figure that in. I lost one, so got the one for 9. 50 first, then saw the one for 5. 50, it was so cheap I thought I'd get another, then I found the one I thought I'd lost. I'd sell the one for 9. 50 + shipping, as I don't need two spares. A tech at my dlr. programed them free.

You don't have to reprogram after a batt. change.

You can program the keyfob yourself, but you will need the dealer to program the sentry-key if one of the keys is missing. If the head of your key is gray, you have the sentry key, if it's black you just have a standard key and can get a replacement anywhere.

$28 from the dealer is a deal, but Yogi's deal is even better!

Gotta love TDR!:D

keyless

I just installed the keyless entry kit to my truck... you have to install a modual behind the gages if you buy the kit... if you just buy a key fob, you have to program only that... My dealer programed it for free,,, ( I gave the guy a 12 pack). . if you can find one on ebay, that would be your best bet... ... .

Are all Dodge keyless entry remotes the same? I looked on ebay and saw some that look the same as mine but It says it's for a Darango. Will it work on the ram if I program it?

Not all the remotes are the same. In some cases there is some overlap on what will work from model to model. Generaly if the Fcc number is the same it will work.

The instructions in the owners manual are only valid if you already have a properly programmed remote to use for entering programming mode. I have yet to find instructions for programming the remote when it's the only one you have!

If you don't have any remotes that work now you have to use a drb to do the programing, unless it is a b van:D ,same with the smart keys... . you must have 2 good keys to program additional keys. With a drb you will need the pin # also

My dealer wanted something like $35 for the gray headed sentry key and $35 for the spare fob. Additional $35 each to program (total $70 - EACH). I bought an extra fob off ebay for around $10-$13 and programmed it myself. Both spare keys and fobs are on ebay. Have not bought key, but can not imagine why it would not work once properly cut and programmed. Did not think about ebay, and so when truck came in I had dealer order me a key.

bombero - I would not want to go back to my 01, especially not over a remote fob unit. I bet if you had your 01 back, you would realize how many refinements you have become accustomed to on the 3rd gen.
