Hey guys, have any of you ever rekeyed your trucks? I have a 93 steering column with one key, door locks with another, glove box with yet another. I want em all the same. Anybody got any info on how to do it? I will have to replace the ignition switch, cuz there actually isn't a key for it. Any suggestions?

I got the key from the wrecking yard with my column. Went down to the dealership and ordered two door locksets for a 91 and just had them keyed to the ign lock. They have the two sided keys in 91. You may need to take you entire column and have a key made. You can't get the ign lockset out without a key. They might have a number you can get by using the VIN to get a key for the ign made at the dealer. Sounds like you are getting the hang of it. It's those little problems that keep adding up. At least you have the advantage of the TDR board. I had to muddle thru on my own!

I'd use the door lock key as the key to fit all locks.

The parts department of your local Dodge dealer can change the pins in the new ignition switch to match the door key. I don't know if you would have to buy a new glove box lock or just have them change the pins inside of the original one.

oh, NO!!!!!

Fastmark, quick, tell me more bout this can't remove the ignition switch without a key thing... ... ... . I am supposed to pick up my new column tomorrow in Flagstaff, and it DOES NOT have a key. Might be the reason they want 150 for it and everybody else wants over 300... ... Dang it.

No way No how to remove it without a key????? Say it ain't so...

Well, The first thing you need in this conversion is at least one service manual. I have two because the wiring is diff in my 92 vs 91 1/2. Go figure. Anyway, the service maual says to ( I don't have it in front of me) put the key in and turn to run position and then push in at a small hole with a pucnh and out it pops. I will have to get my book to tell you exactly, but that is close. I had to use the key. A good lock smith can make one, but I think you can use the VIN from the truck it came from. Ask your dealer first. Get the locks from the doors of the same truck as the steering column. They are easier to get a key made from. Remember, you will have to buy all of the cly made for a 93 as they are double cut keys. not single cut like your 85

VIN # will work

FYI, I called the dealer with the vin # from the donor truck, and they cut me a key within 5 minutes. Kinda scary, as all you have to have is the vin # and you can have any truck you want ( to steal). Fortunatly, my VIN will be different, so I need not worry. Then again, locks are made to keep honest people honest, if somebody wants it bad enough, they will get it regardless. Thanks for the feedback, fellas. Hope someday I will be as much help to someone in need. :)
