OK guys, I took the truck for its first trip since putting it all together... 150 miles... unloaded. Aside from an unloaded 1976 LN9000 with an 18K front axle, this is the harshest ride I have ever experienced! The shock from every crack goes right into your back.



What I really need to know is whether a D350 standard cab dually pickup cam with different rear springs than a D350 long wheelbase dually cab & chassis.



And yes, the shocks are new as are the bushings.

Congradulation Mike, you are the proud owner of a first gen. ( one ton dulley on top of that ). That was one of the main reasons a lot of folks would not buy a 89 thru 93. They would say---- It rides to ruff. The only thing that I have only been able see in the difference is that some trucks ,and I mean only some, like very few ( down here in Texas ) had over load springs. My 92 club cab D350 factory bed has seven leafs in the main spring and four leafs in the over loads. The 3/4 tons ride a tab bit better. I have seen very few 3/4 tons with over load springs. I have to drive 6 and 10 yard dump trucks at my job and some times pull trailers with them so I am use to ruff. The old saying is---- real trucks ride ruff!!!!!!

11 leafs in the main...

That's right - 11 leafs in the mains. It had four in the overloads but I took the overloads out when I was taking the thing apart thinking that the overloads would solve the problem.



When the truck belonged to my dad, it was run weekly with a trailer at 22,500 and once in a while without a trailer at over 16,000. It does have heavier front springs which gives it a ride hieght like a 4X4, but the problem is the rears.



If anyone can go outside and look at their dually reg cab pickup or their 250 to tell me how many leaves are in each I'd appreciate it.



O. K. - I just did a search and it looks like most of the 350's came with 7 leafs. The 250s came with 5, 6 or 7.

Mike is your truck a cab and chassis, that came from the factory without a bed. If so it probaly came with more leafs. Not to many cab and chassis first gens around here. I know of one its a 89 or 90 that I could tract down. The man that ownes it bought it new and put a welders bed on it.

It was a long wheelbase C&C (without a body) when it came from the factory. I just finished cutting it down by 28" to make a pickup bed fit. My guess is that it did come with the 11 leafs from the factory and my dad had the four overloads added after. I may get some 7 leafs from a 250 as long as the leaf and bushing dimensions are the same.

My truck is a 1990 cab & chassis, W-350, it has 7 leafs in the main spring pack.

I'll have to agree with you guys about a rough ride. :--)

And I thought my truck was rough, Until I put my 40 Ft. Flatbed on the rear Then it rides Smmmooottth.

93 3500 springs

my wife and I tested a 3500 2wd and the right was to harsh, I noted that it had a single leaf stack and with 1 tin rating it was understandable. I talked to a spring shop and they said they could remove some leafs,rearc the existing for ride height and add the overload stack above it. sonce then we purchased a 93 3500 ext. cab, 4wd with the split stack (o-load) and the ride is acceptable empty. Other possibility is to install air bags, I did this on my 66 f250 camper special and noted that with some air in the bags it helped damp out the ride.
