Okay, my big boy is only 36 hours old and was looking under the hood and the condenser fins are mushed in a spot where a little rock must have gotten through the SLT grill. I ordered the Kilby CG from Geno's cause I've never seen anything any better. I did a search and a couple of you ingenous one's built your own, but that thread its kinda old.

Does anyone else have this? What do you think, waste or not? Price was a tad high, but remember personally I need some time to learn how to build stuff myself.

I just recieved my Kilby's in the mail yesterday. I will be putting it on this afternoon. I was pretty impressed when I opened the box. The craftsmenship is great!!! It looks like a factory piece. I think it was worth the $$$. I'll let you know how the install is.

Put mine on today. It came yesterday after being on backorder for over a month. Easy install. Kilby forgot to put the hole where the plastic retainer goes into the condenser on the pass. side (i. e. , it holds the rubber shroud that protects the condenser connections). You'll have to drill one yourself. It's decent, but the holes are far apart and and it's not worth the high price. It does look factory, and for $48K, the truck should have come with it. I also bought the stupid guard that goes over the top of the condenser and intercooler (I bought it first but haven't put it on yet. It's ok, but I probably don't need it now.

Being that I used to work for Kilby, I say this with some sort of bias, but I believe his products are some of the best in the industry, and if you're gonna buy something, buy them straight from him, he's a great guy to deal with.

Well that was about 24 hours to late, but thanks. Got it from Geno's. Would've saved about $8. Ah well.

I just take a wire brush and run it up and down the fins. Straightens 'em right out. Anything you put in front of the condensor to protect it will cut down air flow and thereby reduce cooling capacity. JOIBO.

I got the condenser from Kirby quite a few months ago and put it on. The bugs are bad out where I live. Very simple to put on. Any idiot :D can put it on. Hasn't affected the engine cooling or ac.

I have had the Kilby on my 04 2500 from the release date. I run up the BS flag about blocking the airflow and cooling. Should have been provided by the factory. Excellent addition (much needed)

Condenser Protector

Anyone modified one of the condenser protectors with black window screen to help out with the small bugs or does it work ok as is. Been thinking about buying one myself.

The openings on Kilby condenser protector are approximately 1/2 - 3/4 inch square so it does not stop bugs from hitting the condenser, but it isn't intended for that. What the Kilby protector does is stop people from denting the condenser fins whenever the hood is opened, and that is why I purchased it.

For bugs, I cut a piece of window screen a couple inches larger in both directions and used wire ties to loosely place it in front of the condenser. I has at times had a lot of bugs on it, but as it is a loose fit, it flexes enough to dump the dead bugs, so I don't even have to clean it. I haven't noticed any temp problems.

Possibly a stupid question, but: Does the Kilby's cover all the way to the bottom? I'm referring to the opening below the grill and above the bumper. Thanks!

The Kilby covers the entire front of the condenser plus it "wraps over" covering the top and the bottom of the condenser.

10-4! I do understand the concept of the condenser, an it's purpose, great idea on Kilby's part, I was just wondering if anyone has gone a step further with the window screen for the bug problem. You know kill two bugs with one stone:-laf

I had a window screen custom made to fit in front of the condenser. It keeps the bugs out and prevents me from bending fins when I am working on my truck, but it is not very effective at protecting the condenser from rocks like the kilby.

I will post a picture of my bug screen in my readers rig section sometime later this week.
