Kilby Condensor Guard

When installing the condensor guard,the instructions say to support the weight of the condensor with the supplied aluminum wire,then disconnect the support brackets. The bottom brackets are blocked by the bumper. My question is: is it Kosher to lift the condensor up to remove the Torx screws and slip in the guard? The only other way I can see to remove the lower hardware is to use a 1/4 drive ratchet using the appropriate bits and remove them while they are in their stock location. Directions don't address this issue. Thanks

i did it both ways that you just said..... Its almost easier to just lift the condenser up and un-screw the screws really quick... ... . The other way works also but not much room for the fingers to get in there...

I suspended the guard as closely aligned to its final position as my eye could measure (with wire tied to condenser ) and marked the guard's edges to correspond to each holding bracket's torx locations. I then drilled all the marks and mated the top brackets securely; Then mated the lower brackets, one side at a time because of the bottom's restrictive clearances. When one has aging vision, uncooperative fingers and not enough Torx of the correct size one utters unprintable words unceasingly and with vigor. However, I don't mash anymore condenser vanes and most bugs don't get through either.

Once you get that KCG figured out to the way you want it mounted, go ahead and make a trip to Home Depot, Lowes, etc and get some black window screening to modify the front of the guard using the small black tie straps. This will help a lot with the small flying bugs and fine rocks that tend to clog up and damage the condenser fins. There's a pic in my Readers Rigs of the screening installed. So far I've had no issue's with overheating , but I only tow every so often.

I have had a KCG sitting on my shelf for about a year now and am hopefully gonna get around to installing it over the Christmas break. Has anyone seen a decrease in condensor/intercooler efficiency? i. e. blocked airflow? It seems the KCG has a lot of surface area to block incoming cooling air. I too have pondered installing black window screen to block the bugs. I have also thought about making my own frame (like an old 4 pane barn window) out of aluminum and cover it with a sheet of screen. I think most of the damage to my condensor is from small gravel and bugs.

I got a roll of black aluminum screen at HD and then cut it formed it around the condensor, I used a couple zip ties to secure it, but I probably did not even need them. I have had it on there for about 3 years and my radiator still looks new, I just brush or spray the bugs off the screen.

Thanks for the replys. I think I'm going to park this thing for awhile and just install the MPC Grille Guard for now.
