Does anyone here know of anyone that has put a manual kill switch in a first gen?

is there any way besides maybe puting a t-handle on a cable running to the shut-off lever on the fuel pump?

I just think it would be cool to have a kill switch.

Besides, it may be a good safety device in case of a runaway!

What makes you think you'd end up with a runaway? I had one rigged up like a farm tractor till I sold the pickup. Just run the cable from under the dash, up to the shut off. tying it down to the linkages was a bit of a pain, but I got it to work.

Lol dude, you can't put a kill switch in a dodge just like you cant put one on my wife!! Ooops, i think she heard that... .

Alright guys, 1000 by this weekend? :D

Ahhhh post count doesn't mean a dam thing it's cool tho, to me date registered is the biggest thing, the part where i'm weakest :( But none of that holds a feather to the knowledge of the ppl i've seen on this place, the reason why we're here, people helping each other,it's a beautiful thing; just hopefully i can return that favor to anyone that has ever helped me or will help me or anyone else out with knowledge on our good ol dodges... ... this place is great I'd love to keep it exactly like this.

Thank you for your help again Chris :)

I, unfortunately, lack in the latter... :(

I'll tell ya sumthin man, tha quality was there when you were giving me tha hoedown... so the quality is there dude, so dont worry about it !!! :)you are a knowledgeable poster and very valuable here... . just dont get too excited lol!!! hehe :)

If you look on the back side of your injection pump, where the injector lines come out, then look to the front, about an inch, there is a metal casting with a round sensor (?) with 2 black female wires coming out of it. I pulled the female connector off on the side facing the drivers side fender. I installed a 50 amp. toggle switch in the cab with 2 wires going to the injector pump. I put a female connector on one wire and connected it to the sensor and a male connector and connected it into the female plug. I faced the lever on the toggle switch so that when it was in the forward position, the truck would start and when it was facing backwards, it would not start. It works great! The starter motor will run but, no fuel gets to the engine. You have to know where the switch is or how to reconnect the wires to get it started. Feel much more comfortable about parking the truck, now. Hope this helps!

Hmm... that's pretty cool. I do know the sensor you're talking about.

Are you sure it's safe to do that?

Would that actually KILL the engine by starving it of fuel if the need arises?

Heres the problem with your idea Chris. If you have a true runaway having something hooked up to the pump manual kill lever wont do anything for you, heck in a true runaway you could take the pump off the truck and it would still runaway. The only way to stop a runaway is to shut off the air getting into the motor via a Co2 fire extinguisher sprayed into the turbo or a piece of wood or something of that nature over the turbo inlet so the engine oil that the truck is running on cant burn no air no fire. As a anti-theft device I have a switch hooked up to my kill solenoid on my truck, works good just hide the switch pretty well and turn if off before you get out and they can crank the truck till the battery is dead.

How can a truck runaway without fuel???

So possibly a butterfly valve on the intake also? :D

This anti-theft switch sounds like a pretty good idea... as well as the kill switch.

There's a post on the 3G forum where a guy blew a seal and sucked the engine oil into the turbo. PEGGED the tach for a few seconds and BOOM. :--)

Very quiet after that. No fuel involved. They were saying if you could get it in gear and drop the clutch fast enough you could stop the runaway, but nuke the clutch and probably the trans. I believe another guy said he did that and the clutch came through the bell housing. Cheaper than an engine.

They also found a company that makes air shutoffs for diesel engines and were talking about that...

So what would be better? A butterfly valve or CO2?

Should the air intake be closed via those methods, as well as pulling the kill lever on the pump?

Engine oil. Lets say a seal in the compressor side of the turbo lets go so you are dumping oil into the intake well a diesel will burn that oil so you end up with a runaway. Read this post it will explain alot about what I just said first hand. http://tdr1.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=93402&highlight=runaway

So oil can work it's way all the way through the intercooler and to the other side of the engine???

Damn, that sucks!
