The KDP that is, now I won't think of it each time I drive my truck. Only took about two hours to remove the cover, locktite all the cover bolts, tab the pin and clean parts and reassemble. The housing bolts were a little loose  so I would advise everyone to check there bolts. My pin had not move at all from the factory but now I am sure it won't. :) Now just waiting for the 3200 RPM governor spring and intake kit to arrive in the mail from Peirs and I will be set until I decide to spend more money. :D

I been trying to not think of the Dowel Pin, so far no one has mentioned it so i will go ahead and jinks myself LOL... as soon as i get this other small stuff taken care of it will be time to check on that little booger.

Is there an easy way for a guy whom will be doing it by himself to try this?

It's no big deal and there are some great threads here with step by step instructions and pictures. Just do a search for KDP and they will come up or maybe someone here will have them to post for you. If not I have them somewhere I will just have to dig a little to get it for you. The kit I ordered from a member here has all you need to do it with fan wrenches and all. I just found the file with the instructions and pictures so if you want to PM me with your email address I will email a pdf file to you.

Found out this morning that my nephew who owns a 12v 98 (120 k miles) found his timing case cracked on the bottom (while searching for the origin of a small oil puddle) ... . presumably from the KDP that got launched. I suggested he get it towed home and not push his luck... which may be good if a cracked case is his only damage.

I have a 97 engine in a Thomas bus that recently began puking out tons of oil around the vibrationn dampener. I don't have time to look at it (pull the damper that is). So, she will just have to drive it as is.

25 buses and one Mechanic you understand.

Im thinking this will be a good project for some of the Blue ridge crew to help me with, i haven't checked my schedule yet as for the next meet in Jan. but i hope im off from work to go... but i do plan on doing this soon as i would not want that little pin to ruin my day or the cummins. .

Wyatt,

Seems to me I have heard that name somewhere's before... ... ... ... ... ... ... Can't quite put my finger on it though.....

Anyways, I (personally) know the director of the Blue Ridge Turbo Diesel club and he has made me an honorary member. I'm down that way time to time, but only in the spring/summer. My (wife's) truck is from the Blue Ridge. Like, right ON the Blue Ridge. I was lost on the blue Ridge once and wound up in the Valley @ Vesuvious. There is a little general store there that some guy from New York took pictures of :D

Hope to meet you at the summer meeting when they award me the "Honorary Key to the Blue Ridge"

Yeah can't wait to meet some of the other guys as well from the surrounding area's.

Well after last night's little hissy fitt of weather, we have over an inch of ice and sleet on everything, electricity is out(except for those with gen's) :D and all i got to do today is get that shaft together and if filters come, oil change.....

That's what I like about us 1st Gen'ers, may have ice, snow, sleet, wind and no power but we will still find a way to fix the truck. :-laf

well thats just how i am and since its my mode of transport to work i have to get it fixed, but dad kept coming out and saying you need to come in, i told him i would when i got tired of messing with it or i got it fixed, wether it be the 1st or 2nd gen truck i would have been out there, the funny thing is i was covered in sleet and actually had some freezing rain on my coveralls that was sticking LOL... . good thing it wasn't snow i would have lost my way up the steps :-laf
