Being a "shade tree mechanic" and not a "real" wrencher, I delayed tearing into "Rosie" for three months until my anxiety level reached "8". I had ordered the KDP kit from Harrold in Idaho and received good service and some coaching via the phone. With 160K on the clock, I knew it was time. As stated, I am truely glad I took the plunge. I found that the five bolts which secure the case to the block were loose enough that my six year old grandson would have had no problem turning them out with out even breaking a sweat. In addition, one cam cover bolt was equally loose, but the killer was the "blind" bolt (which requires the "bent wrench technique" to cure) was loose enough that it turned to align with the wrench. Cleaned all holes and used Red locktite to reassemble.
Doing some preventive maintance, I replaced the belt tensioner, radiator hoses, and thermostat. I removed the radiator straightened out the bent fins, removed the grill and did the same to the AC evaporator and back flushed the bugs and road trash. In addition, I back flushed the engine and radiator before reassembly.
If you havent yet taken the plunge to do this work I encourage you to think seriously about the consequences of not spending a few hours (several for me) tending to your ride.
Oh, by the way, the KDP had not moved a fraction on an inch, but I staked her anyway. Phewww!
