I will have to post up pictures of this but my Dad had to haul his 91 W350 home today because it was leaking oil everywhere. :{:{ We had a bad feeling of what had happened especially since he said it made a weird noise in that area of the motor a few days ago. Opened the hood when it got here tonight and there was oil dripping everywhere, but the back side of the gear case and below the injection pump was dry. I looked underneath and in the timing cover right in front of the accessory drive gear is the perfect indentation of a bolt pushing the cover out away from the gear case causing the leak. Truck is still running fine so hopefully there won't be any other surprises when I tear it down. I know this should have been taken care of a long time ago but things get put off.

Never mind, it was the dowel pin and it cracked the gear case on the top. I couldn't see it until the fan fub was removed. I got a front cover cover, gasket and seal coming so I guess I will order the gear case tommorrow. It must have popped the gear case a couple days ago but didn't leak much until it put a hole in the bottom of the cover. I don't see any other damage except the oil pump shaft almost looks out of line, it doesn't really look like the pin would have got that far over though. What is the best way to clear the cam gear past the core support? I have removed the core support bolts and pulled it over in the past.

Your lucky ! Normally they get caught between the cam gear and the crank gear . This causes the crank gear to split and the cam to snap off . . Remove ALL the inside case bolts . Clean thread with carb cleaner till there is no oil on threads . Reinstall bolts with red Locktite PERMANENT thread locker and torque to spec... You should also pin the dowel pins while your at it. ... ///MM
