Killer dowel pin question........Where is it?

I know what you're thinking. This is a mature subject by now, but I haven't had much interest in it until now. On this forum, it's reared it's ugly head again lately, & I decided to start reading the posts. I can honestly say the more I read, the less I like it. I have no reason to tear mine apart right now to check on it, but I may later when I have some down time. I'm having trouble visualizing exactly or generally where this thing is located. Right now I'm looking at a page in my Haynes 1994 thru 1998 repair manual #30041. I'm looking at page 2B-7 lower right corner photo 9. 7. Am I on the right page? It shows the timing gear end of the engine with the cover off & all gears exposed & identified. Can anyone tell me about where the pin is located? Is it in the block portion, or in the cover it'self?

Maybe this will help. This is a page Chris set up after our KDP job. http://www.flex.net/~triplem/new/dowelpin.htm If you look at the fifth picture you will see the hole for the dowel pin (top hole). The dowel pin is hammered in to the block to help align the case. Looking at the last picture will give an idea of some of the frustrations we went through..... just try to find a 10mm in that mess . I have since been able to do the job in much less time and have become more organized!!

Thanks, that's just what I was trying to find doing the searches. It looks a little intimidating to me, I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed & hope it doesn't happen to mine. I would be interested in finding a jig & putting a bolt in there there to keep the pin from working out.

Was just wondering if anyone has dimensions, exact drilling locations, drill bit size, drill depth or anything else that would enable someone to put in the fix without using the KDP jig. Or is this just too risky to try?
