Has anyone tried using exhaust wrap (I know thats not what its for) or dynamat to help with the noise in the cab with a aftermarket exhaust?

As I recall, a couple of years ago, someone here decided his drone was caused by the exhaust pipe resonating to the frequency of the exhaust pulses. He U-bolted a long piece of 2" angle iron to the exhaust pipe and cured the problem.

For what it's worth...

Thanks guys!! I ordered a Magnaflow 5". I am gonna wrap the down pipe all the way under the cab and try some dynamat under the floors as well. I am going to wrap it before I install it but I am only going to try the dynamat if its to loud. Either way the wrap cant hurt anything only help.

I used Exhaust wrap and it did quiet the tinginess down in the pipe but I then added a straight through resonator from airflow.com for 80 dollars and that helped on a 7. 3

One think to watch with the exhaust wrap... they will cause the pipes to rust out much quicker than without. I wrapped a set of Stan's Headers on a modified IHC Scout and the headers were toast after 18 months.

I also did the angle iron method, and it really helped. It was like running a thicker pipe. I no longer have it on there. The clamps would never stay tight. The first time the angle iron came off I was lucky no one was was hit by them one the Hwy.

I welded mine

I welded mine as well.

Once you have found the "sweet spot" by moving the iron, and it will vary from truck to truck, just weld it and remove the clamps. Running it clamped on is dangerous, the clamps become loose with heating/cooling cycles.
