Well I'm as confused now as I was when this all started(as I'm sure deepsix is also). We decided to open up the pump to look at the plungers/barrels. Everything looked as good as new,no wear on any parts visible. Used cleaner, oiled and reassembeled. Took truck out for a test drive(about 90 miles)and it ran like the day it was new. I don't know if the problem has been resolved or if it has been temporaroly fixed. I'll drive the snot out of her this weekend and report back. I did talk to a reputable diesel shop about 25 miles from here and they told me that they had worked on 3 trucks this winter already that had the same symptoms as mine and a pump rebuild solved the problems(and for only 2500 clams
