Ever Saw This Before?

Good luck BIG. Thanks for the pictures and the entertaining posts. As for me, I won't be renewing either this time. I sold my camper and just sold the Cummins and now have a 1500 Hemi with the cool new 8 speed. As for TDR, it's still a great site and, if I do get another Cummins, I'll be back.

Mr. Big,
I'm 67 y/o & grew up in Detroit, MI. During that time, the entertainment on TV was generally Western's, which, I grew to love. Anything western was of interest, to me. No mountains in Detroit!!! No cowboy hats or boots, either. In fact, the first pair of jeans (Wrangler's) I ever had were purchased by me, as an adult. Hopefully, I'll be buried in a pair!!! In 1976, I decided to make a big change in my life & move to Phoenix, AZ. & start a business, which, I did & haven't regretted for one second. My friends thought I was nuts but, it turned out that I wasn't. I love the mountainous Western States. The country is just beautiful.
I just wanted you to know that I read as many of your posts as I have time to. You are like a character out of one of the many Western's I watched as a young person. You have interests that I would have never known to exist & I thoroughly enjoy reading about things like the farm implements, you enjoy. It gives me great pleasure to read about your hunting & pack trips into the mountains of Montana (your backyard!!!). These are things that I will probably never do but, really enjoy reading about them. You have a real talent for describing these events & making the reader feel like they are there, with you. I thank you for that.
Before moving to AZ. , the only time I had gone camping was in the Air Force in 1966 at Gunter AFB. , in Montgomery, AL. It was next to a swamp & was for Medic Training. That place was infested with cotton mouth rattler's, alligator's, wild dogs &, God only knows what else. Not a comfortable environment for a city boy!!! Since moving to AZ. living in the outdoors is far more popular than where I have lived, previously. I ran into a group of friends that got me into trailer/motorhome camping, which, I found much more civilized than sleeping in a two man pup tent in a swamp in Montgomery, AL. The trailers is what got me into diesel pick-ups & that is what introduced me to the TDR &, ultimately, your posts.
Like many of the others have expressed, I too, will really miss your postings. There are not too many people, like you, left &, many of those don't post, it seems.
Again, thank you for many hours of wonderful reading & photographs you have posted on this site. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be introduced to the remarkable life you have lived and I thank you for taking the time to share your stories & pictures, with the rest of us, especially, me.

Yep the BIG 60 JULY OF 53

Well happy birthday BNasty, and welcome to the club. I guess I cant refer to you as the "kid" anymore. I thought 60 was going to be a bad one. But it wasnt. I really didnt expect to see 20. So, everything after that has been gravy.

You're still just a kid. :)

Mr Harris its been a pleasure and that's a for sure. I don't know if I will return or not RIGHT NOW. Im getting kind of caught up in this helping the young folks thing, we had some of them over for our 4th of July hoe down they were pretty timid at first but when they eased up a bit they found out that hey this old fart and his gal aint so bad. One asked if we could play anything a little more contemporary on our guitars? Said what do you like? of course it was some rock and roll thing that most at the party wouldn't like but Penny gave me the wink so we ripped loose and he was im pressed. Didn't take much.

Take care Pard

Joe

I don't know what to say to you and some of the others that said they like to read about what we do here in HEAVEN to me Montana. I still wake up and wonder when I put on my boots and walk out the door if its all been a dream and im back to work driving a gas truck, or waking up from being put under for some operation. I was lucky once by getting the Girl and her Family but to have them and what we do is better than winning the lotto and that's a fact. Its easy to tell it like it is when you have the folks and things around you that are the real deal, Im just fortunate enough to be along for the ride.

The farm equipment was a great find for me not only for the equipment but for MY side of the family, my Aunt and Uncle are here and they are happy to see that someone in the family is still interested in the farm lifestyle. The family farm is next to non-existent today, I feel this is a shame on us as a people but as a Nation we were a farm based country hell we fed more than half the world at one time and our farmers didn't even have to try. Now we import more food than we produce its nice to have peaches in mid winter don't get me wrong but have you noticed THEY DONT TASTE LIKE THEY USE TO??? Both my Aunt and Uncle have said that they have felt better ate better and have a better outlook on things sense they have been here that makes me feel good that people CAN REALAX around us and not have to worry about the world for at least awhile, on that point im MORE THAN HAPPY most days I couldn't tell ya the day of the week or the numbered day of the month for that I will be eternally grateful to my wife and her Father. The last thing I think about before I close my eyes each night is what im going to do when they open in the morning, THATS A GIFT THAT NO ONE CAN BUY AT WAL-MART ;)

Take Care Joe and Thanks for the kind words

BIG

The above Post or Thread from Joe had me doing a little ponderin I guess when I went back to the 4th of July party. The guys around here ALWAYS get around to talking about HUNTING and asking Jason my Nephew and some of the others that are in the mountains more than most, about where to get the BIG ONE. One of the guys that books with our family asked how bout it BIG? I was kind of not really there. He asked something bothering you? I told them about your writings Joe and how you watched the Westerns. Well to HELL with the hunting the conversation got around to NAME THAT WESTERN :-laf What a list

Without looking on the internet I could remember quite a few, ya see Joe my Dad raised on a farm in Nebraska couldn't wait to get off the farm went to the Military made a career there and at Western Airlines and I can remember his watching these same shows saying that he WISHED HE'D NEVER LEFT THE FARM kind of weird :-laf

Gunsmoke

Rawhide

The Rifleman

Paladin

Bat Masterson

Bonanza

Rin tin tin

How the West was won

The High Chaparral

Maverick

That conversation when on for most of the night, I could even butcher up a few of the Theme songs that were on them. I got lost someplace along the way I didn't know most of the ones that were being put out on the list, one said come on BIG you got to have another!!! For some reason I said F Troop. BOOOOO BOOOOOOO that one don't count they threw Fritos and corn chips at me for saying that was a western. See what ya did Joe :-laf guess ya don't have to live and be in Montana to be a Cowboy now do ya?;)

BIG, I second everything Joe Buffalo said. Your stories are as good, if not better, than anything I've ever read. And the best part is that they are all true stories. I've told you before that you should write for some magazine or write a book. Your are greatly talented with a precious gift of writing. I bet you could also write good country music too.

Not to mention, Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok, and Annie Oakley. And the best one of them all, Cheyenne. Oh, and The Lone Ranger.
(And what about the one that was sponsered by 20 mile team borax ? (I forget what that one was called))
And you might as well include Corky and White Shadow.

Oh yeh, and Broken Arrow.

How about Audie Murphy and, more recently, Clint Eastwood's old "Spaghetti Westerns"!

Our list was for TV series shows only!! they took down what was said there were like 30 of them. My Dad was a big time TV western guy and I hadn't heard of half of the shows that they talked about. FIL said this is not a fair contest he lived in Babb MT when he was growing up they had to pipe in sunlight and TV was all of 1 channel :-laf but talked about several radio western shows. If I lived in Babb MT TODAY!!! To hell with any form of outside communication the place is just MAGNIFICENT!!!!! I asked FIL about the Indian young man listening to WESTERN SHOWS?? did you kick the crap out of the radio????? :-laf:-laf ( thank goodness he's got a sense of humor)

Thanks Grizz

I do enough HARM to country music, without trying to rite music. Im a karaoke singer AT BEST, but got me some ear monitors and a microphone like the Pro Singers have and at least now I can harmonize with others where before I could not.

Mr. Big, I didn't read the whole thread, but I scanned the 1st and 3rd pages and I take it you're leaving us? I think that sucks as I look forward to your posts when I get on here. Unfortunately I don't get on as often as I'd like to, the kids and projects keep me too busy to get on more that once a week if I'm lucky. I just want you to know that I along with the others will miss your very entertaining stories. If you ever get to Upstate NY you just holler and I'll buy you and Penny dinner someplace. It would be my honor to meet you in person after all the laughs you've given me.

Thanks Mr Toombs
We sure will look up people when it comes time to make the trip, I have been thru the Upstate NY a time or two and hope to take Penny to see the North East in the Fall, she has seen pictures but its nothing like the real thing. Making time for family IS FAR MORE IMPROTANT than any website and should without question be taken care of first, I have found out even if they sometimes forget to say thanks for what a Parent does they remember and that's what makes the difference.

As for now!!! im still alive and kicking from a motor home in the Grand Teton Nat. Park AND IT RAINING CATS AND DOGS. We used the in-laws bus and it has everything that a guy could want. Modern technology has its place I guess but been away for almost 2 weeks and sure miss the smell of S*** don't know why? except that maybe the ones I miss are the same ones that create the smell. Funny thing the other day we were on a hike and a passenger pack train (rent a ride stable horse thing) came by so we got to the side of the trail and as they passed I told the wrangler that a rope had worked its way loose. She said thanks ill get that at the next stop, the lead heard me say something and stopped so I quick grabbed the rope and tied it back to a nice TOP KNOT. The wrangler girl said you've done that before??? Just a time or three :D and tipped my hat. We got to the trail head and they were unloading the people and gear from their overnite trip and we talked. She said I feel you pulling my leg on a time or 3 of lacing up stock???? OK SO IVE DONE IT 4 TIMES. :-laf

Take Care Mr Toombs
and of Your Family

Penny and BIG

PS I don't have a clue as to when this subscription runs its course but until then :D
