For the last 3 months my truck has averaged 17. 5 mpg. Last weekend I took a trip to glamis towing a 14 foot atv trailer weighing in at 4500 pounds loaded.
On the way home I decided to see just what this truck was made of. There are a number of long 6% grades climbing out of the desert. The truck accelerated past 85 mph with ease climbing thses grades. egts were under 1200 and the transmission temp was around 175 degrees. Whats wierd is the mileage I got was the worst ever 12 mpg. However after refueling on monday I have been averaging 19. 8 mpg(overhead, Its always been within . 2 of hand calc) When I was towing up the grades at first it blew all kinds of black smoke but. . after that nothing. The truck really never towes any big loads like most of you tow. Im just wondering that maybe this is just what the engine needed to break in and start delivering good mileage after 36000 flawless miles? FYI I dont generaly tow a load at those speeds but I wanted to see one time what the truck could do and I am very impressed. Oo. :--)
