Kinda dissed with the mpg's

Two things jump out at me,

1) Your odo is off approx. 3. 5% with the tire change making your math in error.

2) Your speed is too high for good mileage, especially with a stick.



On my 05 mileage drops off when you go over 2000 rpm's Keeping it at 1800-2000 seems like the sweet spot. Try that and add 3. 5% to the odo when doing your math and it should put you into the 18's

I relize that but it is only one size up so it is not going to add 2mpg's maybe a tenth or two. Plus those tires were just installed two weeks ago.

I put on 285's and had my odometer re-calibrated. I recently went back to the stock 265's and went a few weeks before I had the dealer do the re-calibration. It definitely makes a difference. My mileage "instantly improved" by 1-2 mpg and my odometer was reading 1. 1 miles for every actual mile I drove. I calculated this using the interstate 1/10th mile markers. Once I had the recalibration done, the mpg was closer to what I was used to and the odometer was correct. Based on this I would say you are getting better mpg then you think. It was worth the $50. 00 to have them do the calibration.

Mileage 06 4x4 6spd 3.73

Mine has went up as the miles are added, I generally pull a 14' enclosed v nose trailer (loaded about 7500#) and also pull a 29' fifth wheel double hitched with a 21' bass boat or an 18' walleye boat . I run amsoil fluids thruought all my vehicles and have done the same in my dodge cummins,my mileage started out about 14. 5 empty and steadily went up,I run the stock tire and am regularly seing 19. 5 -20 on the highway at 70 (this past week ru nning back and forth from KC to Mayo Clinic in Rochester)towing my smaller trailer on a regular basis i see 12-15, the fifth wheel 11-12, I hand calculate all mileage, the dic is very seldom close most of the time it is 2-5 mpg low on it's reading,I left kc this morning and reset all when we hit the highway the dic said 16. 5 with dte at 468, we drove to rochester 453 miles and were just under a 1/2 tank,In short give it time when it breaks in run it on a synthetic program and also use amsoils ea air filter,one other thing if you have an automatic your overdrive is higher and your mileage will be higher. My brother in law traded his 1500 2002 for a 2006 quad 2x auto and is getting 22. 5 to 24 on the highway.

Second trip to Mayo ,Same as before DIC showed 16. 8 average hand calculated showed 19. 33 mpg this was at 70-72 mph. if you add miles traveled to the DTE and didvde by 35 you will be real close your hand calc mpg. i now have 23k miles.

I have 14,500 miles on mine. I average 16 MPG mix city and highway driving. Truck runs really good. Pulling a 9000 lbs trailer @ 65/70 MPH 14. 5 MPG.



Off topic... I dented the tailgate last weekend pulling my fence post. Learn my lesson using a nylon rope to pull and not keep on going forward while pulling a post.

gas mileage

I get 18 mpg highway no load (hand calculated) I have a 05 2500 QC 4x4 6spd with 4. 10 gears, a 6" lift , 325X50X22 nitto terra grapplers, one thing that might help is try not to go so fast because its been proven that if you go faster than 60 mph it lowers your gas milage diesel trucks are not aerodynamically designed for speed. Not stock from the factory anyways.

That kind of mileage is great, mine is only getting 14. right now with 1700 miles on it. And I'm happy with that. My 04' was getting 18 around town and 20 on the road, and on at 2000 mile trip pulling my 5th I averaged 14. 5

I think the diesel fuel we are getting today leaves something to be desired when it comes to quality. My 98 12v gets between 17 and 18 combination of interstate and 2 lane, mostly interstate. 104K probably not broken in yet. Keeping the air filter serviced is important. Diesel fuel was cheap in 98 and I got 19 to 20 MPG when the engine was still new. Maybe I am all wrong about the quality being less but you can see how I would think that.

First trip in 06 got 17 mpg highway. A little dissapointed since I think the 01 would have got over 20 on same trip and the trip computer said 20 mpg. Same on test drive so I thought I would see 20 mpg since the 01 trip computer was right on. Anyway since truck is new maybe it will improve. Truck is also heavier from what I've read and more emissions controls. You would think with this fancy electronic fuel injection they could get better mileage. I am still happy with new truck since it drives so much nicer but that trip computer is useless.

I tried talking to a service writer at my local dealership (lithia) about the "reflash" and they seemed pretty clueless. Would a smarty reprogramer override anything the reflash would do? I have an 06 mega 4x4 G56 and i am in the middle of a 4k mile trip and im getting 16mpg, i realize doing 80mph doesnt help but on HWY10 through Arizona & New mexico its about impossible to do any slower. Also has anyone succesfully modified their truck and got better mialage? I have the edge with attitude and it defenitly did not help with the mialage in any way. Thanks

Cummins Northwest told me that at 80mph you are loosing 4mpg, drop down to 60/65 and you will pick it up.



Also get rid of the junk hanging on your engine, I had a souped up 04' with a fuel control problem that cost me $2600. to fix. Because the Factory voided my warranty, no way you say. It cost me $7000. for a lawyer to tell me they were right and I was wrong.

My Stock 5. 9 07' is doing just fine, having had 4 Dodge cummin's I can live with the rotten mileage until the engine is broken in (50,000+).



Drive slow, put a nice air filter on and get rid of the electronic junk. It didn't help you anyway.

This WILL kill your MPG! Wait a couple of months, and see if you don't have a improvement in MPG.



I run #2 with Howe's fuel additive (1oz per 2 gal. ), and I average around 19 on the road (I run 65 mph or less)

When the speed limit on HWY10 through Texas is 80 and the Peterbuilts go 90 driving 65 is not much of an option. I spent 40k on a truck i would expect it to be able to keep up with the speed limit and get decent mielage, i have heard of 06's that can push 20mpg doing 75, those are the people i would be intereseted in hearing from, thanks though ... by the way, nice truck.

3. 42's are supposed to be available for these 11. 5 AAM's soon. Problem is @ $1500+ it'll take awhile to recoup the cost. You could be my neighbor with his '03 Superduty 6. 0 and never exceed 14mpg since new along with many other problems. That's with cat delete,low restriction intake and exhaust.

Mine (see sig) got about that until 10k. At 6000 miles I undertook a trip from San Diego to Topeka and back with a total weight of about 15k. When I got back the mileage went up about 10% from 15. 5 or so to 17-17. 2 on my commute of 41 miles each way, 60-70% freeway at 65-72mph. Truck weighs about 7800 with me and a full tank. It now has about 16,500 miles and seems to be running better lately. Smoother and a little quieter. I run Power Service fuel additive, about 8 oz to a tank full. Oh, yeah; it got right at 12mpg for the 3800 mile trip to KC at 70-75mph most of the way

on cruise. AWESOME TRUCK!!!!!!!
