I'm in North Jersey last night, driving from one job to another and I notice that fuel pressure was very erratic, 13 psi to 2 psi and everywhere inbetween. It settled on 3 psi and anything more than a featherlite touch on the accelerator pedal dropped it to 1-2 psi. I finished the job and had to get home, 75 miles or so. 3psi equals about 48-52 MPH depending on the slight hills and steeper hills were taken at about 38 mph. Got home safe and without issues or codes being set.
I replaced the lift pump and fuel filter today and all seems to be back to normal. 50K miles seem to be the limit on stock lift pumps, and reading many reviews about aftermarket lift pumps, they seem to have issues too. I'll stick to the NAPA Carter pump. Having relocated the lift pump to the frame is the best thing I have done because it takes all of 20 minutes to swap out the pump. I will keep a spare liftpump and fuel filter in the boonie box from now on.
242,088 miles on the mighty Dodge as of today. Best truck I ever owned. I know I'm on borrowed time till something big breaks, but I hope it never does.
Safe driving to all,
Ken R
