Kirkland brand price costco tires

without going into a long long lecture/info about tires and why one gets this many miles v/s another gets that many miles lets just buy what works for you and remember YOUR driving habbits WILL make the difference as will your maintenance . and another thing you do get what you pay for in most cases [given your with a fair dealer].

they guys who get 50K +/- miles are easier on their tires than those of us that rarely see that. . might be the hwy. v/s mountains, might be the heat v/s the cool climates, might be the HP v/s mild. . you see there are lots of things to take into account when ya purchas. .

for me the best buy for the money is the Michlen XPS. . butttt I drive like a wild man is the mountains [didn't know a dual wheel truck will slide/4wheel drift ? come on for a ride ]. so the Kirkland tire is tooo mild to handle MY STYLE of driving but great for others !

I HATE COSTCO My wife can't seem to get out of there with out spending at least $150. 00 a week ( I also have three kids ) She swears she saves so much money.

I never tried the tires, but I was impressed with the quality and the cost of every Kirkland branded item we got from Costco. If you're on a budget it is great. The tire mounting, balancing, lifetime flat, road hazard, is a great deal, too. That has forced many tire chains to sharpen the pencil on that profit taking. (4 tires for $99. 00 but when you add mounting & balancing equals $225. 00 from the super tires store?)



Last year I looked at Kirkland tires, but ended up going with Goodyear and mounting and siping them at Les Schwab. If I had to do it over I would get a set of Costco tires or Michelins. I think this will be my last set of Goodyear passenger or light truck tires. I'll NEVER go to Les Schwab again.



It is 140 miles to the nearest Costco so we had to settle with Sorry Club instead. bummer

again guys these tires are good tires BUT they are not for everyone ! your driving habbits should be the determining factor. . they will not be mine as my "style" is much to harsh for these tires. . pull heavy get XPS . . pull alot get XPS or LTX. . empty or around town 90% of the time Kirkland are great ! different tire for each type of driving style IS needed

anytime you go in for tires the very first question they should ask is what type of driving do you do ect. ect. not how much are they, get the right tire they will pay off many times over the long haul.

folks tend to buy by price not what they need. . want to be satisfied then buy right.

yo willyslover ... thanks for the comments, well put I was talking to the Costco tire guy & he commented that the Kirkland is made in a 2 step process, where the Michelin is a 1 step process. Furthermore, the Kirkland won't be as true 'round' as the Michelin. Also, the comment was made, like yours, that it's not a 'heavy duty' tire. The example he stated was for a work truck. I didn't tell him that he's well studied, but can't hold a candle to the WillyMan.



He did say that the Bridgestone, I think, is an excellent tire & he may be able to get it in the 235x85's I like. The Bridgestone also has a long treadlife warranty & is a great tire, next to the Michelin. The Bridgestone, wish I could remember the model, was in the low to mid $90 range.



Seems like I remember a post that folks like the Bridgestone brand for long life.

Wow, it's only Lana and I + 4 cats, and we can't get out of there under $500 and this is without TOYS.

I've had used them in the past with great success and just put a set on my dually about a month ago. I've been hauling to horse shows quite a bit and am really happy with the tires. At the price and with the really good warranty and service from Costco I highly recommend them!

Hey forrest I have to disagree

A tire that has the same load rating in comparison ( ie: Michelin vs Kirkland 235/85/16) Load range "E" is a heavy duty light truck tire, It is the highest load rating you can get out of a light truck tire. Most tires are made in a three step process

1. casing woven ( belts)

2. sidewall applied

3. Tread applied



The out of round statement is the only true statement the counterman gave you. Michelin may take more care in placement of the tread to sidewall. If you ever have taken notice all tires have a round crayon mark on the sidewall ,This is where the tire is best mounted opposed to the valve stem for best balancing results.



Not knocking YOU Forrest just the comment from the person you talked to ,I used to work for a big tire Co. here and they send you to school to learn all that stuff. Its been a while so if i'm wrong please let me know

an FYI here... we just "listed" monday a BFG traction, commercial tire in the 235 size that is a under a $100 bill ea. have not seen any specs yet other than it is 10ply steel [not sure if that is sidewall also]

I have some info comming to my office on it. . I'll post here what I find out. .

not trying to talk you out of the Kirkland just giving you as much info as I can.

Kirkland vs Michelin

Yesterday, while in the local Costco tire store, I had a chance to visually compare the Michelin and Kirkland 245s.



Other than the tread depth, I really couldn't see much difference between the two tires. I didn't have a guage with me, but it appeared there was significantly more tread depth on the Michelins (maybe as much as 1/8" to 3/16" more using a credit card ruler). If you do a lot of driving in snow, and want as much traction as you can get, this might matter to you.



Although Michelin does not warranty their tires to 60k miles, like the Kirklands, I'd suspect they will do at least as well, based upon the results many TDR members have had.



The Salesperson told me the reason the Kirklands were unavailable for a time, was the tire was being redesigned. I don't know if this is true or not.



Price for the Michelin 245's was $146. 99 and Kirkland's were $91. 99 each. I think Michelin is presently running at $50 rebate, if you buy four tires.



If I can't make a decision which to use, when I have to replace my OEM tires, maybe I'll just got with the BFG A/Ts.

the difference between the XPS Michlen [$156. 99] and this tire is the Michlen is a full steel carcass v/s two steel belts and two ply polyester carcass on this one.
