So there I was, the ol' turbo diesel just wasn't making power the way I know it should. Since it started about the time I swapped up to some larger tires I thought it might just be that. I finally got around to putting the stock 265-75's back on and it's still really low on power.
Being the good reader I am here on the TDR, I was envisioning faulty lift pumps, expensive injection pumps and boost leaks :{ . Nope, finally dawned on me that the place to start was with the easy stuff. Changed the fuel filter even though it only had about 5k miles on it. Sheesh was it DIRTY! Runs just like I remembered it should. Oo.
Moral of my little tale- Like every other troubleshooting adventure, always check the easy and obvious first.
And yes, after over 110k miles I think it is time to invest in some gauges.
Now I am wondering if I need to flush the tank out or if this was just the result of 1 tank of dirty fuel? Any thoughts?
Phil
