Basically the dude is at a Comfort Inn and gets his 4th Gen cat stolen.

After a few minutes to ponder this, I wonder if the delete guys are going into desperation mode... This happened in California...

Happened to a neighbor I had in CA. He had the worst luck possible; got it stolen, came back a month later and got it again. I guess the cops said that's fairly common. They hit you and then know you'll be getting it replaced. A guy that used to work with my Dad had welded a long rod of steel stock or something to his cat. They didn't appreciate that and beat the crap out of his truck. Punks. It's not the delete guys, it's tweakers and other certain types that sell it for scrap. Containers leave daily for China full of stolen cats.

I am not worried at all mine is locked away in my Garage attic for safe keeping.

They have been stealing the DPF's and Cat's for some time now; that is why I put mine in the attic so it cannot be stolen.

Isn't government wonderful? They mandate these pieces of crap to be put on trucks and now they'll probably have to pass another law to keep scrap yards from accepting them without proof of ownership or that they have to be vin stamped at the plant, etc. etc. Absurd.

I assume the value is in the raw rare earth metals in them. I kinda doubt people a stealing them to put them back on a truck or sell for the same reason. Same as copper theft. Sad, but a fact of life. Better that stealing the whole truck.
