Were gonna bring this back up to chew on somemore

I just had this problem, too. Talk about bang your head off a wall trying to figure out what the noise was. Had a real low but loud thump at idle and about any rpm. Clutch in, out... moving under power, rolling, or sitting still... didnt matter. Engine temp didnt matter either. I figured it to be a possible broken valve spring or a head gasket/ compression problem.

I made it stop, for now. (on accident)

Here's the TSB for it. I had my t-stat replaced by the dealer for this problem. They didn't have the part number call out on the TSB, so they replaced it with the original P/N. It fixed the problem. I still need to get them to put in the new P/N.

Flap, flap, flap --flat tire sound

The "flat tire" sound problem was the subject of a number of posts a couple years ago. A member from Texas ( I'd like to give credit, but not sure of the name--Stockard??),

indicated a dealer somewhere had solved his problem by moving the hose from the heater to the engine head from near the rear of the head to near the front.

There is an article about it in an early TDR I think

ANYWAY, after putting up with it for a couple years,on most hard pulls with the fiver on, I moved the heater hose from its position near the rear of the engine (on my 01) to near the front of the engien-------haven't heard the noise since!!!
