I contacted Kodiak at 541-942-6044. They are still there and in business. I told them the email and 800 number on their web page are bad.

The SideWinder step cost $149 and change if you say you saw it it on the web. Otherwise it is $160+.

Thanks,

I called them and they answered my questions.
You have to use their switch and not the door light switch to activate the step.

Their site is http://www.kodiaksidewinder.com/

Phone numer is 1-541-942-6044, thanks to Ramvette.

It is a retractable step. When you open the door, down comes the step.
Close the door and it goes up near the truck frame, out of the way.

It also has the avantage of being 1/2 way between the door sill and the ground, making it easier to get into the truck.

Cost is $149. 00 (I think)

I'm considering trying one.

There are a few things to consider about the SideWinder step. It really has room for only one foot. If you have a person who needs to get into the truck who has a mobility disability like my wife does the step is too small. Also on one of these 4X4 beasts the step height is too high for a handicapped or elderly person. This outfit also makes automatic motor home steps which come in several versions some of which have more than one step. I have installed a set of their two step motor home steps on my truck so my wife can get into it. If you have a copy of TDR issue 13 there are pictures on pages 20 and 21 of my truck with the steps. I had to invent the mounting system since none exists for a pickup truck. I got a couple of door switches from Dodge to use to activate the steps so the installation looks ok. There are also switches to deactivate the system so I can wash them with the doors closed or prevent them from extending if needed. Dodge payed for them under their handicapped reimbursment program. If anyone is interested in the installation details just e-mail me.
