Kodiak Sidewinder piece

Weird thing just happened, I closed my drivers side door and there was a ping ping noise like some piece of metal fell to the ground. I looked around and saw a sort of C clip lying there. I looked under the truck and saw a similar piece on one of the hinges of my side winder step, so I knew where to put it back (on the other one). Any body have this happen to them before? Should I worry? If I had not caught here at home and never knew it fell off I wonder what would be affected?

That hasn't happened to mine. It seems like you would have to lose both clips for the step itself to be lost and I would think any bind in the system would stop the step at the point of binding alerting you to a problem... ... .
