Hey-

Trying to see where these mount to. Anyone have pictures of the final installation and any pics of how they mount. I'm worried that they only mount to the cab sheet metal

Erik

I have an old set that my dad took off of his 99 ford f250 because 2 of them failed. I have the good ones mounted to my 97 2500 and haven't had any issues with them. I'll take a bunch of pictures of mine and how I mounted them. I used to have running boards so I used one of the holes from where they were mounted. The steps that I have are from 99 when my dad bought them new. They use a windshield wiper motor for the step movement. That's what failed on my dad's. The new ones use a stepper motor and they are fast as hell and silent. Send me your phone number and I can explain more about my installation.

The step come with a mount that will bolt to the floor pan and also the frame on some models.

You also will use the pinch weld of the rocker panel as a support.

They are very sturdy! Now you see me now you don't!

I prefer the plunger switch (gm style) to the magnetic switch which is available.

Good luck

Andy

I made my mounts as the only ones that Kodiak used that were more factory appearing were the ones that DC sold through the dealers. I used a piece of agle iron and ran it between the support under the seat to the side of the universal mount they now have. For the front I drilled through the pinch weld. I ended up using the factory DC wiring harness and soldered the connection to the factory door light switch wiring. If I had to do it over again I would just use the plunger style switch to activate them. I didn't want nor like the magnetic switch. Best part is that they are quiet, fast and don't take any ground clearance away from the truck. You can barely see them on the truck from the side. Check out my truck in the reader's rigs gallery.

hey EBottema,

If you go to www.offroadunlimited.com and then on the left, click on videos, then click on the top video (you have to have quicktime, I belive) there is about a 3minute video about off road unlimited. In the video, there is a pretty good clip of a set of Kodiak Sidewinder steps at work. They open/close the door to show you how hey work. Man are they fast! there is also a (gasp) super doody with a nice set of nerfs that automatically retract in the video.

Yeah, just one bolt just about centered under each seat. Also, when installing the magnetic switches i'd install them like I did on the passenger door. I put that one under the door plunger and I don't have to worry about the wires getting cut. I just haven't got around to moving the drivers side. I talked to an installer and he gave me a trick to getting the mag switches to line up. Mount the wired side to the truck first then get some puddy or something that you can clean off, use it to hold the switches together. Take the tape off the door side of the switch and close the door. Just make sure the puddy isn't too strong. Heck some chewing gum would work.
