If steel is so expensive, I'd really like to know how some of youu paid more for your 03s than I paid for my 05.



It's just an excuse. If the market wouldn't bear the increase they wouldn't be doing it. Obviously sales are good and they're out to make more money whether you guys agree or not.

I'm struggling to understand why you seem to have such a chip on your shoulder about KORE. Did you ever stop to think that maybe they priced their products low initially to get in to the market and now their prices are simply where they should have been several years ago? They raised them 10% in almost 3 years. A 3% increase per year doesn't seem too unreasonable to me.



You imply that Kent is out pushing his system to people who don't need it. Have you ever talked to him? He will be the first one out there to tell you that if you don't drive off road, then maybe you don't need the CHASE or RACE systems. They aren't Hard Selling anyone. Maybe people are buying it because they would like to take their truck off road, but simply haven't had the chance yet.



If people buy it because they want the bling, then that is their choice, but I can guarantee you that KORE is not out to sell Bling!

Drove it off highway today

Finally got the chance to get on some dirt roads, some good, some not so much. On a washboard road that we travel pretty regularly, I was blown away by the control! :D :D Even my wife noticed that the truck road much more smoothly. The rear end didn't step out once, even on corners and turning under acceleration from a stop. Even better was the "whoop crawling". There are some pretty good sized whoops going down to the beach where we go. Going down was good. Going up was great. The softer "minipak" springs allowed for more articulation, keeping the tires on the ground. I got up through all the whoops in 2wd, until the last BIG one. Did have to put it in 4wd to get through that. Overall, I am SURE that the PACE kit was worth it. Between the improved on highway ride and the way improved dirt road ride, I am kind of wishing I got the CHASE. Those shock towers are cool! :cool: For a truck that spends 90% of it's time on the road, though, the PACE is the way to go.

In this episode Ian also discussed gear ratios - and how they change with bigger tires.

This is what I think is exactly what has happened. 3% per year doesn't even match inflation. I just wish they wouldn't mask it with calling it a materials increase.
 
I made the mistake of purchasing a superlift leveling kit for my truck and within less than 1500 miles my right bump stop was MIA and my left bump stop is already 1/2 way worn out. I am not a serious off-roader but I do work in a construcion environment. Spoke with Greg @ DRS and i am consedering purchasing the Kore Chase System for my 05. Greg explained in very good detail how the Kore Systems work and function for our types of trucks better than others. I also learned with my Superlift you get what you pay for. :{ Also I have had a clunking sound in the front of my truck when i am at slow speeds and turning to the left. It dosen't always happen but it started after I installed the Superlift Leveling kit??? Maybe that has something to do with it.

I can understand your irritation concerning companies blaming cost increases all on materials. I dislike this as well. I've got a stack of letters from my vendors that all say the same thing - "the cost of materials has gone up and now we're passing this on to you. " It's kind of understood that it's not just the cost of the raw material itself - it's the cost of transporting it, the labor to work it, electricity to run the machines that tool it etc. Fuel and energy prices have increased astronomically and this also affects the "material cost. " For the sake of simplicity, price increase letters are not broken down into a complex matrix showing where every increase has occurred.



I suppose it would be more accurate to say, "stuff is getting more expensive to produce" - because it's more than just raw material costs. For the last three years, through April, we're at 9. 7 % for average inflation, however in the manufacturing sector I bet the average inflation is much higher.



KORE isn't trying to "mask" anything - really. All of the raw materials we use have increased by well over 10% during the last three years. Some parts we buy have gone up in cost by over 50%. The cost of doing business has also multiplied. Thanks to the Chinese, "Raw material surcharges" have been applied to almost every part I buy. Up until last month we were simply absorbing it. If KORE couldn't maintain the volume it does, we would have to raise prices something like 45% - because of the cost of finished product, materials, whatever way you slice it.



Three years ago, as a new business trying to get a very unique product on the market we sold a lot of parts at well below our actual cost - sometimes we even gave stuff away. We did this because without huge amounts of capital, there's no other way to get momentum. How do you convince someone that Rolex-quality performance suspension is what they need when all they've ever used or seen is Timex-quality stuff? You get some product on the market and start listening to people talk.



The decision to raise prices is a hard one to make. It angers and offends a lot of people - absolutely the last thing we want to do to customers or potential customers. I've received nasty emails saying KORE is "bending people over" etc. - implying that it's pure greed that drives price increases. I don't think companies raise prices out of greed; they do it out of necessity. Do you think that the guys at AFE woke up one day and said, "let's raise prices 30% because we want to play golf all day and drive around in Ferraris?" Probably not. I'll bet they raised prices in order to stay in business.

Great reply. I wish more people would understand this. I'm very happy with my system, and I'll be buying another system for my next truck.



One regret--I should have gone with the Race system. I can't believe I was being cheap when I bought the Chase. Those Fox shocks are too cool, and I like the idea of taking bigger impacts, along with limiting straps.

I must have misunderstood you then.



I was addressing your use of the words, "mask" and "excuse" - words that imply that KORE is hiding behind the auspices of material costs because we're not honorable enough to shoot straight. This would be a breach of integrity that goes against everything I stand for.



That's why I took the time to explain that when KORE says, "material cost," it means more than the price of raw iron and aluminum ore commodities as they're traded on the world market, something we don't sell, but whose price plays one of many rolls in end-user costs.



If being, "out to make more money" were the only driving force behind what we do around here, I wouldn't be making anything for Dodge. I would make Ford "lift kits" using leaf packs from India and nuts and bolts from China - like almost everyone else does. I would have 200% profit margins and laugh all the way to the bank.



KORE only does Dodge - a relatively tiny market. We take custom, high performance parts derived from racing and engineer them to work in OE applications.



Why? Because I love off-road adventure and I love the Dodge Ram; I think it's the baddest truck on the planet.



It's hard to explain, and I don't have a way of proving this, but it's passion that drives our business. If it weren't, and KORE was all form and no substance, that the dollar/performance ratio wasn't really there and we were sitting around, drinking martinis and getting rich while selling fancy parts that don't really work, we would #1, be largely copied by other companies, and #2, I think you would hear more folks out there saying that our products are hollow - over-hyped, over-priced, bogus pieces of purposeless fluff.



But you don't.

My thoughts ditto those of AndyMan - not only can the guy BUILD and DESIGN the systems, he knows how to tell us WHY they are the WAY they are.



Kent, you have my respect as a user of your product. My only regret is that I don't have the latest revisions of goods.

Kent, I will echo that I found your responses well articulated and precise. I am a happy owner of a DRC Race System which I feel was worth every penny. Furthermore, Greg has been an incredible help in all aspects of upgrading my suspension with Kore and DRC parts.



Please continue the passion and innovation of developing, testing and selling quality parts to Dodge owners... to this TDR member it is greatly appreciated.
 
Well GOOD GRIEF!!! If we keep this up, Kent's going to get a big head. :) With all of us KOREnuts (poor play on words) running around, posting on this forum, I have yet to hear a grumble. Pretty awesome endorsement. That being said, and in the words of my old CPO (Chief Petty Officer) "Kroker, what have you done for me LATELY?" I know that some companies put a product out and rest on their laurels (backsides) and rake in the dough. I'm suspecting that you might have some irons in the fire... care to mention any???? :)
