My truck will not start or run with the ksb solenoid disconnected(even when warm). As I understand it, this should not prevent the truck from running or starting.

My question is, does this indicate an injection pump timing problem? The truck always starts instantly and runs fine as long as the connection to the ksb solenoid is tight.

thanks

are you sure you unplugged the ksb and not the shut off solenoid?

on my truck the ksb and shutoff get power from the same wire, so you may have a loose connection in the wire

I am sure that it was the ksb that was unplugged. I was able to cause the truck to shut off by disconnecting wire at the ksb solenoid, and have had no problems for two years(30k miles) since the connection was fixed. The problem first appeared 2 years ago when the engine would occasionally shut off going down the road, most times it would fire back up before loosing little if any speed. At that time upon investigating all connections it was obvious that the wire to the ksb solenoid was only hanging on by a thread.

The occasional stalling or no start situation has since come back because I neglected to solder the crimp on terminal 2 years ago(always intended to). Also, with out touching any other wires, simply tightening the unsoldered crimp on the ksb wire terminal has always fixed the problem.

That sure sounds like the fuel shutoff solenoid. It is the one on the rear of the pump with two wires going to it that looks like you could unscrew it with a wrench. One is power from the ignition circuit and the other is power out to the ksb wax motor on the side of the injection pump. The KSB is not exactly a solenoid in the electrical sense. It has a tube then running up to the injection pump.

If it really is the KSB, I have not a clue what is happening.
