Thanks for the input, folks. I can't recall the last time I saw 19 guys all agree with each other here on TDR :-laf , so I'm guessing Kubotas must be really good.

#21,

Just recently got the L3430, (34 hp), was leaning Green initially buy American and all. But after looking and talking to many people, research and asking questions on www.tractorbynet. The local dealer situation, and the best advice I had, a list of 7 people I know that have Kubota's and have had no problems. Two green guys both had problems.

25-35 HP Kubota are the best

I'm looking to buy a compact tractor... diesel, of course. Overall, I like the Kubotas. Anybody have any practical experience/opinions on their lil 3-banger 25-30 HP diesel engines? Who makes 'em? How do they perform? Easy to maintain?

(I won't ask about BOMBs, although I'm sure somebody here has done that! :-laf )

#24 I bought a second hand 24. 5HP Kubota L245DT back in 1985, it was used then about 900 hours. I used since then and it has about 1400 hours now, and it was store for 8 years while i was overseas. /b Try a 4x4 if you can get one, that DT in the old models /b

The only mainance it ever required, oil changes and fuel filters, top of the hdraulic fluids, as it had some leaking lift clyinders, where were shop reared just this last year. Here are a sold little tractor, I like a newer 35HP as there lower center of gravity be better on my stomach. and about 10 HP would be nice to pull a 72 inch weed hood as I now have 5 arces to mow.

I paid $8500 then with new rototiller, new post hole digger and used weed 48 inch hog. it still worht at least $6000-7000 as she sets. You can hardly go wround with a good Kubota, there are proven units.

I get at 60 inch weed hog if I did it again.

The Zero turn series (ZD & ZG) were having problems withe the frame breaking/cracking with the hopper style dump (instead of 3 bag) due to the excessive weight with wet grass and it has 1 trailing tire that when you got into a gully/hole the weight would transfer to the rear single trailing tire and front casters putting wayyyyyyy too much stress on the frame and cracking. A friend (with 2 ZD21's) had one of his mowers actually break the frame in 2. We ordered out ZD28 with a hopper (not kubota but the dealer said it was the closest they had that woudlnt hurt the frame) and it was JUNK the next day I took it off tossed it back in the truck and literally dropped it off at the front door. They (the dealership) is still looking for a bagger... (dans farm supply in Adrian MI)

they do a good enough job without the bagger!!!

I've got a little 15 hp Kubota in my 1987 Cub Cadet garden tractor, absolutely love it, still runs like a champ. Parts are still easy to find.

A little off-topic, but since the issue of zero-turning-radius mowers has been raised... . I love and recommend Great Dane mowers ( http://www.greatdanemowers.com ). Made in America, built like a brick defecatorium, I've been mowing 12 acres with my 25 HP Chariot model for 5 years now with no complaints. With mowers, I always look for a mower deck welded from steel plate, rather than stamped from sheet metal. Great Dane has that, plus a lot of other strong features. You'd have to work hard at breaking one of these babies. The downside, of course, is price... .
