Can anyone tell me a little more about this engine? I have been over @ www.carolinagrowler.com doing a little shopping/dreaming, and they list the following as one of their options:

2. 2L 4Cyl. Kubota V2203T Turbo Charged Diesel Engine. This all new engine comes with a new radiator and dash instruments specifically designed for use with the Kubota diesel. In additional to the normal aircleaner the air intake is also equipped with a primary spin filter which removes approximately 90% of large particulates. The engine comes with glow plugs and can be equipped with a heated fuel filter for extreme cold weather. Note: with this engine the vehicle is automatically built with a 12V electrical system.

I'm considering buying/building one of these in a year or two, and frankly I'm torn between flipping the extra $5. 5K for this option or sticking with the tried and true mil-spec 2. 3L Ford four-banger. Any input/suggestions/criticisims?

I have three cylinder Kubota now on a tractor. It's a great little engine. I would think that it would be more of a continuous duty engine (running at the same rpm for long periods) than an intermittent duty one. I really like it. Service on it is easy. The one I have is strong and smooth. I don't like the preheat system for starting. Turn the key, wait five seconds and start. I have to do this whether it is zero or 100*. Other than that, I really like their engines and equipment.

Another engine that would probably be good in the growler would be the Perkins four cylinder. Turbocharged and strong plus they seem to be reliable. Or how about that four banger they are going to put in the new Jeep Liberty? I think it's a Mercedes.

I have a 4 cyl Kubota non turbo engine rated at 46 hp in my Bobcat and it runs great I have never had a problem with it. It does seem to idle a little rough for my tasts but all Kubotas do that. My only concern as Alan stated is that these engines are normally used for running full throttle for long periods of time not stop and go. Your right about that extra 5. 5K being hard to swallow.

I talked to a friend of mine this afternoon. His concern was the same as mine. He said that in order for the Kubota to be used in this application, it would probably require a different fuel pump for the intermittent versus continuous duty application. How you find out what that pump is, I'm not sure. You would probably have to contact Kubota.
