12cm2 turbo housing improvements how-to

Here's the deal,i bought a kwikspool b1b-2 on a recommendation from a local diesel shop, had it installed with my BD brake. Due to a busy work schedule,i could not tow with it until late this year(8000LBS). First impression, not good---maybe i guess, with just EDM1. 5's, comp box turned OFF i could hit 1200 preturbo at about mid throttle going up a average hill, anyone know if this is correct. I'm thinking about maybe selling this turbo and going with a regular B1-2. I am also going to sell the comp and go with Bob/Marco CATCHER ecm. On level ground i was about 750-800 post/1000pre,does this sound to hot ,it is to me ,not much room left for passing on a grade(not suppost to go above 1200pre right). Piers says to go with a B1-2/wastegated tow version,--- you have the wrong turbo. Without towing ,comp on 2x3 i can pin the 35lbs boost guage and hit 1200-1300 pretty quick rowing through the gears. If i was not interested in towing, maybe this turbo would work cause it lights pretty fast but put on a good load behind it and it gets hot fast. Tell me if it should stay or sell. THANKS DW

David, the ecm's did leave here today. so maybe hold on for a couple of weeks to see how much the catcher helps.

If not there is time :)

Thanks Bob,I'll hold off on the turbo/high egt's problems till later, hopefully the Catcher will help ,PM me with a price for all the goddies when they are ready to ship and i'll courrier the check asap. PS--- i'll see how hot see gets with the 1. 5's and the Catcher,my wish list is edm's2. 4/Catcher and have the proper charger, hopefully i can get it right around spring time---see ya DW :)

David,

The exhaust housing is too tight for towing..... Actually I feel it is too tight for about any truck with the fuel turned up. The turbo Piers suggested would work good or you might even consider going with a full B-1 that is wastegated. Backpressure plays a big role with egt issues, thus one of the reasons for a wastegate. Remember that higher boost doesn't always equal more HP or ability to control egts. I have seen an HY-35 make almost 50 psi boost but boy was it hot. With the B-1 I am running I have it wastegated for 35-40 psi.

Thanks for the info Doug,so do you think i SHOULD go with the regular B1 or the B1tow,this hopefully will be the last turbo i buy(I thought this was it when i bought this kwspoolB1b-2---BAD ADVICE I TOOK :( ). As i said before, comp is gone soon(don't like the advanced timing and stress on the vp44 while towing-don't use it much anyway)Doug/Marco Catcher will be installed and i'll try the new turbo with the 1. 5EDM's that i have already but may go bigger--to 2. 4s. Will i have enough fuel to spool either B1,i don't want it to be to laggy. I guess i am trying to find the middle of the road here,i want a awsome tow rig that can pull most grades at or close to the speed limit and still be able to pass if needed, aswell as be able to hot rod it a bit once in a while. Believe me this truck has not been driven hard- its a hobbie truck, comp has not been passed 3x3 or has it driven faster than 85mph---only 21500 kms on it(13500)miles. Thanks for your expertise,i think my pocket book is going to get much lighter again.  ---PS If i can really aford it one day i may get Piers to do his magic with a cam and 2stage/o ring head work but that is a big wish---first things first--DW
