Competition ladder bars

I'm going to be fabbing up a set of ladder bars this weekend and was just curious on how long most people make them, how far up the frame they put them, and what length seems to work the best. Is it the longer the better. There going on 12v, ext. cab long bed with 4. 5'' skyjacker stage II kit.

8' long---no more than 3" below axle and at the frame I mounted mine underneath about the same 3" distance---DOM tubing---NO PIPE----chris

would 1 3/8 '' DOM tubing with 3/8'' wall thickness be ok,

are you using heims or just drilling a hole thru the tube and shoving a bolt thru---if you're using heims I think 1 3/8" is to small as you'd need a small heim---but if you're going hillbilly with the bolt shoved thru you'd probably be ok--the wall thickness is good--mine are 1. 75 x. 25 with 3/4" heims---chris
