I am looking for a ladder rack for the truck. It would not be on the truck full time. I need it for transporting canoes, ladders, kayaks and those random objects that just don't fit in the bed. I have run into trac rack's, system one in my search. System one is over kill I think. I would also like it to take two canoes at one time if possible. Any suggestions??

Thanks

Ted

Check out www.knaack.com Quality stuff, built to last, at a reasonable price. Shouldn't be too hard to find a dealer near you, the dealers here in Kentucky are industrial tool/fasteners suppliers, like Kwikset.

I took a look at the picture of your truck ( very nice set up) and noticed your cap is flush with your cab roof. Canoes are carried upside down on the racks. With the shear line of most canoes curving up at either end your racks will have to be several inch's taller, as not to allow the canoe to rest on the roof of the cab. Kayaks will not be a problem as there mounted in a cradle right side up. But you probably already realize all this.

My cap is set up to carry canoes and kayaks. My racks are removable leaving only 4 mounting plates on the roof which are barely noticeable. The racks lock onto the mounting plates by tightning a big knob at each plate. Very strong and very easy to take on and off. Got these racks at a truck and van accessory shop in the big city. Since I had the whole top of the cap and the racks sprayed with Line X I can no longer can read the rack manufactures name. But I think it was Pandera. The width of the rack is usually optional as you can usually get longer lengths of channel to accomadate what ever you want to carry.

You might also what to check out how much weight if any can be carried on the roof of your cap! Some cap manufacturers don't reccomend putting any weight on there rooves others such as Century are rated for 500Ibs. This is a very important consideration as with the height of these trucks you will have to get up the roof at various times to help with loading etc. Thats why I had my Century sprayed with Line X on the roof and racks as I was scratching hell out of the roof with my boats and the racks were putting the odd mark on the boats.

There are alot of very good and very expensive roof rack systems out there. Any good canoe and kayak shop will have them as well as the truck/van folks. How fancy you want to go depends on your wallet size and the construction of the boats.

An ABS canoe or polyurethene kayak will not need the tender handling that a cedar/canvas canoe or kevlar kayak requires.

Hope this helps a bit, sorry I couldn't be more specific with brand names and web sites. Pete
